Tips for a new player

I just got Alpha Centauri, and so far I've discovered that it's much, much more complicated than Civ2/3. (those are the only other two civ games I've played.) So I was hoping I could get some tips from a more seasoned Alpha Centauri player, because at the moment I understand nothing about this game

You also should look at the manual, assuming you have a copy. If your version of the game didn't come with a printed manual, look on the installation CD or in the main game folder for a PDF file.

You also might find some of the articles in the CGN SMAC Academy useful.

Finally, feel free to post your questions here. You'll find many knowledgeable players who will be glad to answer.

There was a a guy named Velocyrix who wrote a very good comprehensive guide that is free back in the day and is considered THE source and required reading for SMAC/X.

Google Vels Strategy guide. Most fansites dedicated to SMAC/X host a copy like AC2 and Aployton it is so valuable. There is also a text version on gamefaqs.

The thing is over 100+ pages! It is a long and detailed read.

Also, last year there was a rash of fan made patches that solved bugs and improved AI. They can not be linked to, unfortunately, in CFC because they use .exe hacks built on a no-cd crack which is against ToS. There are several versions. Some are for SMAC, others SMAX. You may want to research Kyrub's AI and Scient bug fixes. In my case, the version I use is a drastic improvement.
