Tired of Steam Auto-Update Breaking my Civ 5 saves!

I was playing a game last weekend, and was 372 turns into an epic-speed game. The next day, I try to load my saved games and the game crashes almost immediately during loading. I tried loading 3 different saves, then I noticed the game version had changed from 332 to 348! This has happened to me before, when the last patch was applied, and at that time I was over a thousand turns into a marathon game! Because of this, I didn't even bother starting a new marathon game, but I hoped I'd finish on epic before a patch broke my saves again. Is this a new feature/goal? "See if you can finish a game before we patch it and break your saves?"

Right now, I'd like to roll back or reinstall to version 332 so I can use my saves.

I figured out that Steam will not auto-patch the game as long as Steam is in offline mode, but keeping Steam in offline mode means not being able to play anything else online (like TF2), and not being able to update any other games. It would be nice if there was a way to disable the auto-update and manually select when patches are installed instead.

I submitted a problem ticket to 2KGames describing this issue, and they responded by asking for DXdiag and msinfo logs from my computer, so they are obviously idiots or aren't paying attention, as those logs would have NO bearing on this problem. So, I've given up hope for a solution from them.

Could this confirm my theory that steam was a last minute decision and they should have moved back the launch date until all of the issues were worked out?
