TNT Files Term 7 - 9

Don't forget to send TNT a thank you for the gold - even though they didn't always remember to thank us, I think we should tell them we appreciate their gift.

Title ... Explosive Last Stand
Dear TNT

Thankyou for the gold ... we assume that your valiant defence is soon to fall ... your accommodation is waiting ... also a generous supply of medicinal alcohol :D

Cheers MIA

I wonder who will join us? Hopefully whoever joins will take the time to go through our threads and have a great laugh :)
A laugh indeed, it will be at least mildly interesting when you guys will be able to read our MIA thread and plans.

wow, this thread was really interesting!

i'd just like to say that, i don't think we were arrogant, but rather we didn't quite grasp the situation properly. also, those chats you had with donsig were very misleading, as he didn't really speak for us outside of the team. he was our turnplayer and that was all. he wasn't *supposed* to be involved in FA with MIA. also, when you guys called us schizo, that was because donsig and i were disagreeing on what direction to take. not until BCLG came and joined, was our team able to stop trying to do stupid, agressive moves. also, when Strider became active again and lost_civ signed up, we had a solid core of players for a month or 2, so when you thought our whole team had given up, it was really just donsig being very unsportsmanlike.

understood :salute:

I hope that no offense will be taken when you read through the various TNT Embassy threads ... and as you stated it is just our perspective from information gleaned ... and each team member has their own 'bent' on things as well. :crazyeye:

I look forward to when the game ends and we can ALL see the other teams' thoughts and comments and gain an overall view of things.

@Greekguy - if you want a really fun read, check out the older TNT threads. We had some pretty pointed opinions about your early war strategy. We start new threads every 20 turns, just to give you an idea. I believe they are all linked from the Foriegn Ministry sticky.

thanks, i'll check out those next and add maybe add some more comments here.

@fe3333au: i agree, it should be interested when all the curtains come down on all the private forums at the game's end. we had some choice words for our 3 opponenets throughout the game, too. :mischief:

alright, finished reading the other TNT diplo threads last night, but was too tired to comment, so i'll do so now:

i'm curious, what specific actions that we made led you to believe we were playing the game ineptly or foolishly?

just thought i should point out, that i was a strong voice for attacking KISS cities and trying to kick them off our continent. i was convinced (and still do believe) that if we let KISS keep cities on our continent, it wouldn't matter what we do the rest of the game, as they would have a foothold on our land and be able to ship units over with ease and could attack and kill us with no problem in the future. as the war dragged on however, BCLG, who was our diplomat with KISS, started pushing for peace with them, even though it heavily favored KISS. the deal was we would give them all techs we research for 50 (don't remember exactly) or so turns and agree not to settle any further east past where the KISS colonies and TNT borders met.

now, concerning the earlier D'Nut war:
we started the war at the behest of Provo, however most of us were in agreement, so Provo's Folly is a bit harsh. we declared on D'nuts to grab their worker and then moved next to their 2nd or 3rd city, which was empty. they abandonded it, and we retreated our warrior, waiting for our Immortals to be upgraded, so they could move south and knock d'nuts out of the game. we would've won the war, as we had more cities, were more developed, and they only had their cap and maybe one other city left. however, bad RNG rolls killed many of our Immortals and they soon were able to field MWs, which the combat zone back towards the mountains and the border of the Sacred Jungle. we probably should've made peace once a stalemate was reached, but here Provo was stubborn, not recognizing a failed plan in his face. unfortunately, we couldn't reign him in in time, not until he left the game did we start making efforts to sign peace with D'Nuts. of course, we know they needed to quench their thirst for blood, so they razed 2 of our cities and made peace. hope this clears some stuff up.

p.s. will post more later if think of anything else to comment on

Understand that we had incomplete information, so we are not in a position to judge fairly, but I think the main areas that you seemed to me to be playing suboptimally was build and settlement strategy.

It seemed you were building an awful lot of culture when there was still a lot of expanding to do. Some of your culture was being built in outlying towns - a library costs you 1 gpt and probably provided little to no benefit because of corruption. I think there was probably a better use for those 40 shields (or the money spent on cash-rushing). If nothing else, build workers (I'm sure my team will confirm how much I push worker-building).

After the Donut war ended, you aggressively settled pretty far south. Although you gained luxuries and denied them to Doughnuts short term, you couldn't possibly expect to defend those holdings if the DNuts decided they wanted them - especially since you were building a lot of culture instead of exclusively military.

I think one of the things that surprised us most was the Mausoleum build - it really seems like one of the least useful wonders, and I am curious why you chose that.

we built a lot of libraries because at that point in the game we were behind in tech, and we needed to catch up and reach the MA quickly. if your "deal of the century" hadn't come through, we probably would've been the last to MA. so, we built libraries in lots of cities, not just for science (primary benefit), but in our outlying citied to deny tiles to D'nuts and increase our territory. i agree we didn't build enough workers during the game. i don't remember who's fault it was though...

settled down south to get the luxuries on the southern edge of Sacred Jungle. it worked for a while and i agreed with the border towns at the edge of Sacred Jungle, but i remember disagreeing on building Mezza Keep. i though we needed to settle our core more, as we only had a core of 5 or so cities throughout the game. having the silk was nice in the later game, but it meant we need to send pikes to the region for defense and the worker turns used to build the jungle road hurt us 'cause we couldn't improve our core.

i honestly don't remember why we built the MoM. i remember we were originally gonna build the Statue of Zeus in one of our core cities and kill D'Nuts with Ancient Cavs and Immortals, which was a sound strategy everyone on our team agreed to back in Aug/Sept. however, i think we eventually got nervous that another team would build it before us and we would wasted the shields, so we went for MoM instead. i think that's why, but it was a long time ago, and my memory seems to blanking out on this issue.

The other thing that surprised us was the MM.

If you goto the first pages of Looking Glass you will see a screenie of your capital ... which we managed to haggle out of KISS :mischief:

This was the basis of a fair chunk of TNT riddicule ;)

Actually, it was the Nuts capital screenshot provided by KISS that made me :vomit:.

TNT's was fine at that point - when we established the embassy much later, then they were building an immortal at 14 spt, but that was after TNT was essentially done anyway.
