I post this thread to say every modder please to make (and how to) their mods compatible with other languaje versions. Everybody in this forum has not the same English version of Civ3.

For example, i have spanish civ3, ptw & c3c, and (i dont know why) civ3 directories are translated too. So, when i use an english mod i have to edit all .INI files, replacing the "..\..\..\marine".. string by "..\..\..\infante de marina". After that, i see some mods have errors inside these .ini (they wrote ../ instead of ..\ , i think)

I think, if a directory called "shared files" were made in the same dir than "units", containing all the used sounds from Civ and some common flics(marine death, carrierattack, panzerfidget, bomberbomb.flc ... are the most common), it would ease other users to have fun with your mods!

I know what i propose may make bigger some mods, and may be hard for largest mods, but it helps us to play them!
I cant play at Pentagenesis, Xcom, Master of Myrror, Mystara... coz i have hundreds of .INI files to edit!!

(If you are an english moderator, please edit this writing it OK :D )

The main problem with that however is copyright. That'd mean including some art and sounds made by Firaxis and we are not authorized to do so.

What you (the Spanish-speaking community) should do is try to find a programmer who can create a small program that automatically corrects all these links and file names. So that'd be done only once. The French and Germans have such a program which works kind of OK according to the feedback I have received.

 S#@$&%king copyright! it never let us to do anything easier!
Thks for the link. Ive downloaded both versions. French one is impossible to translate, but german might be. I will try to transalte it (with 0 idea of German)

But I need a list of dir names from English version. I need to know which Tech enables the troop too (because i might not know which unit is).
Could anyone give me it? Only for Civ3 needed!

No, no. Only a list of folders in the "CivilizationIII\Art\Units" and which research enables each unit (ex:
Unit DIR ---------- Unit Tech
AEGIS cruiser ------ Robotics
Pikeman ----------- Feudalism

AEGIS is simple to recognize. When you say "Pikeman goes with feudalism" i know it isnt the Spearman.
I need them to translate a german utility.

Better, i will say which units i dont know what are, and you may say unit DIR, unit Tech and which Civ is it from (if it is a single Civ unit. e: Panzer)
Now im not sure about:
Freibeuter -> Privateer -> what??
Schlachtschiff -> Man-O-War -> what??
Späher -> scout -> for Expansionists?

What means:
Das Original-Verzeichnis ### existiert nicht.
Sie mssen dieses Programm im Civ3-Verzeichnis starten. Das Programm wird abgebrochen.
Das Verzeichnis ### wurde nicht gefunden. Das Programm wird abgebrochen.
Protokolldatei ### wurde erzeugt
--Programmende--

belegt. Dafür habe ich zur Zeit keine Lösung. In englischen Sze-
narien wird daher die Einheit "Panzer" angezeigt und nicht die
Einheit "Deutscher Panzer", sorry.

DELETE POST! I posted two times!:(

Wow, i saw inside each unit dir sound filenames were the original ones. So i dont need the list. Thks!
Man-O-War is the Buque de guerra (england)
Privater is the Corsario (i thought it had to be Corsair)
Scout is the Batidor (initial explorer)

For an easier usage, i only need to have the text upper posted translated. It is almost IMPOSSIBLE for me!
But the basic translation is now finished

translation:

the original directory ### doesn’t exist
you have to start the program from the civ3 directory. program will shut down.
directory ### has not been found. program will shut down.
log file ### has been created.
--- end of program ---

the program will create a copy of the german unit-directories and rename it with the original (english) names. this way you are able to play english as well as german scenarios.

the unit panzer means different thing in english and german. presently no idea how to handle this problem. Therefore you will have in english scenarios the unit “panzer” instead of “deutscher panzer”

*******

the problem occurs only with the german unique unit

english: ordinary unit = tank; german uu = panzer
german: ordinary unit = panzer; german uu = deutscher panzer

after installation of the program the german uu will will be named “panzer” instead of “deutscher panzer”

I forgot the words: EINHEIT (i think COPYING is valid) and FEHLER (i think ERROR is valid) and FERTIG (i think NOTE is valid)
 Fast and great translation! Will copy&paste. Then upload!

Thanks!

LouLong! It is finished and works perfectly!
Where shall i upload the zip file? with your other 2? And how does people upload bigger files using links instead of "upload" option?

The best I think is to create a thread in the Utility programs (http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=54) and to attach the file there.

Then I will make a link to your post/thread in my post about utility for non-English Civvers.

Congrats BTW. I am sure Spanish people will appreciate your work !

About the upload, you have :

1- attachement in the post
2 - if the file is bigger but not too large you can use "upload file" at the bottom of the page.
3 - if it is really big (>5MB for instance albeit the limit might be lower) you must ask Thunderfall by PM for FTP access (provided he agrees).

And I advise you to post the news about your utility there (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=89296) so Thunderfall will post it in the front page for everyone to see. And I am pretty sure people with Spanish versions of Civ will be interested.

ahm i think before uloading you shld try your translation and build with the germans their unique unit and check the stats/name/view. as i understand theis specil unit was not included in the german translation program due to the above mentioned problem with mixed up names.

if already done...sorry... i thought its better t check twice than have the probs later on. peace :p

Dont worry. I saw the original programmer was trying to add the Panzer##### to the program, but he was not able, and surrendered. In spanish version the problem doesnt exist, because they are "tanque" and "panzer". Panzer doesnt need to be translated, so the strings arent needed :).

I checked if it worked with my own Civ and it copied all directories (Great!:goodjob: ). The hardest part was to adapt the "áéíóúñ" to the .BAT file (inserting icons in "word", pasting in .bat and opening to see if i had written the icon somewhere...)

Danke!
