Tokugawa the Unsettled (Conquests 1.22 Deity Variant)

Please skip me this round, I am tied up this weekend with guests coming round

I think Ted said he was going to be unable to play until the autumn.

Preturn: Go through the previous turn logs and discussions.
I trade Byzantines into the Industrial age (I pick up Democracy). Unfortunately, they get the same tech we have (Steam). I was hoping for a trade with medicine.

Early: Continue aggies defensive play. Byzantines also ally against us on the second interturn. Things are rough and RNG is pretty brutal to us. - Several losses of cav vs muskets on flat terrain (no retreat either), and one cav in our lands takes out 3 cav on defense before it is killed. Our coal is pillaged and I notice our backup is not connected.

We seem extremely short on workers - I will try to get some more.
We do get a leader.

Arrgh, we lose a full health Cav army vs an Infantry doing a single HP.

I call off the war vs Iroquois.

I purposefully take straight up peace so we can redeclare at any time without a rep hit of any sort or any exploit

Aiie - a 10 hp Cav army goes to 2 hp vs a Byzantine Musket. I can cover with a few Cav and hope.

The plan is to do hurt vs the Byzantines instead of Iroquois.

Unbelievable. The second musket in the city takes our other cav army to 1 hp (started with 10 or 11). Fortunately, we DO win and take the city - we just lucky enough to get by.

Mid: We could try a steal from the Iroquois, but I hold off as their are communist.
Get a second leader while fishing for one with an MDI - go for another cav army.
Capture Adrionople

Late: Capture Caesarea and constantanople.
Good Lord, I just realized we built our FP next to a Volcano :D

The Iroquois take out the Last Babylonian city.
Capture Hangcow destroying the Byzantines

Notes:
I accidentally hit space once to often and the save is the start of 1255 AD. I haven't done anything but rush the two temples in the towns that resistance just ended. All units are for the next player to move.

I think we are near the end - 10-30 turns.

We now have 5 armies and are not at war with anyone. It is just us and the Iroquios with Spain owning a single city.

We completed Pentagon very recently, but I didn't yet add the 4th unit.

We have almost 4000 gold. I think we should attempt a steal or two vs the Iroquois.

I was thinking that Rep Parts was most important as it will help us fight better and will speed up our meager worker force, though industrialization is always useful.

This assumes we are going to attack the Iroquois very soon. In that case TOE would come in too late to be much use. If we want to wait on the assault and go for TOE. I was thinking of keep th Iroquois from tanks though.

Hammi was a dope! I have it since I think Ted is still on skip. I will plan on setting Gozpel up for a successful campaign.

I think we have 5 army now. I don't think there is any reason not to grab the last 16% that we need for domination and win this.

We may even want to allow the enemy infantry to wander a bit in our lands and concentrate on destroying cities. We can bombard said infantry with our cannon which will often drive them out of our territory to heal and never fight them - though if we get them to 1 hp then we can kill them with cav.

To do the above we could even steal nationalism and simply defend. Not sure...

We keep the Samuri army for defense and allow the 4 cav armies to take out cities.

After studying the save earlier, I'm going to set up five task forces, if we have enough troops. One task force to capture Zimbabwe, Bapedi, Santiago and Nineveh plus a main force at Uruk

I just got to play a little, but I thought, I’d share it with everyone.

Pre-flight – 1255 AD - we need 225 tiles to win. There are 145 unclaimed tiles. We presently have enough cash for a safe steal, but we are not ready for the consequences if we fail. We have or will have temples in every city for some boarder expansion.

Since China is just sitting out there making techs more expensive, I change Xinjian to a galleon and rush it for 192G.

We are a happy lot. We have a total of 10 unhappy people and 2 content people in our entire kingdom.

1. 1260 AD – Our Chinese expedition is loaded with three elite cavs and a musket, then sets sail. We just about have a strategic rail net complete. I’ll start in on improving our core next.

IBT – The Iroquois send a bunch of units towards Spain. Could Isabella’s stay in this game be limited?
We get a lot of expansion.

2. 1265 AD – That cut it down to 171 tiles to domination. 91 unclaimed. Load vet cavs into our armies.

I think we are ready for war. So I send a message to our ninja in Salamanca. Steal a tech. I offer up a Babylonian virgin to the RNG god :worship:
Nad_-_1265_AD_Steal.jpg

We take nationalism. I spend 540G upgrading muskets to rifles.

To be continued…

1265 AD – (Con’t) take a turn off the military academy build with rails.

IBT – Hiawatha wants to trade TMs. I don’t think so. As expected the Iroquois declare war on the Spanish.

3. 1270 AD – Cut another turn off the Mil Academy.

IBT – Iroquois start ToE.

4. 1275 AD – 153 tiles to go. At the only Chinese city, I sail in close to view the beachhead (there is only one tile to land on) and there is a redlined Iroquois musket occupying the tile. So no war with Mao. The Iroquois and Chinese are not at war, so the Diety ROP works with all opponents, not just the human. I apologize to the team for that waste of time
5. 1280 AD – Down to 141 tiles to domination with several expansions. That’s about all we’re going to get though. We’ll need to capture and expand at least seven Iroquois cities. Well, maybe it is time to provoke Hiawatha into a war. I spend 2061G on a careful steal. We succeed. I suppose that’s a win-win situation. I take electricity since we’ll want rep parts next.

IBT – Isabella would like us to go to war with the Iroquois for her. No thanks. Then the rampaging Iroquois destroy the Spanish.

6. 1285 AD – Continue improving the core. Seville is now up to 27 uspt or a cav every three with one wasted shield.
7. 1290 AD – Working on the railroad
8. 1295 AD – Our Chinese pleasure cruise makes port and our troops are told to get to work.
9. 1300 AD – Alleppo gets to 20 uspt.

IBT – Iroquois complete US.

After Action – We have enough cash to attempt a careful steal.

There is a task force in Akkad our FP city consisting of two 4-cav armies, and 7 cavs. I was thinking that this task force could be used against Bapedi.

There is a second task force just south of Ulundi which has two 4-cav armies, 13 cavs, and 13 cannon. This one is intended for Zimbabwe. With our rail system, all this can be changed with the click of a button.

A third task force is just south of Babylon.

Uruk and Toledo are going get the brunt of the counterattack. There are a lot of units there, but probably not enough. I would load up those two cities after the initial attacks.

Pre-turn - scroll through cities and everything is good. No changes.

1310AD - Iro finish ToG and starts Hoover.

We build some stuff, move workers around.

Remember the advice about RP and manage a careful steal. I will try for Industrialization later.

Upgrade our 20 rifles to infantry for 300g.

Now when we have infantries, I will do immediate steal.

1315AD - We finish Military Academy and Iro completes Smith's in Bapedi.

1320AD - Interesting times lay ahead, Iro's move a couple of troops into our territory.

Upgrade all cannons to artilleries.

1325AD - I reneg peace with Iroquois by giving them 400gpt and ivory for Industrialization and 942g.

I try an immediate steal and fail, and we are at war. :)

1330AD - We take Bapedi and Zimbabwe at the loss of 3 cavs, removing 9 Iro infantries.

Our rather obsolete Sam-army dies against a 1hp Inf, kill 2 more, we lose a cav and take the city.

Remove 8 invading cavs, lose 2 cavs, but 4 promotes to elite.

Upgrade cannons

A decent stack of 24 enemy units stands 2 tiles from Toledo.

1335AD - Iro's seem to take the loss of Nineveh seriously and move everything over there.
And they declare war on China.

We lose our 2 frigates, sinking one enemy vessel. Who cares?

Kill off 4 Inf and 2 guerillas.

Upgrade cannons.

2 stacks of 24 units each between Nineveh and Toledo is Iro's initial tactics.

I ignore building factories for now, units are more important. Only Kyoto got one and is building army.

Workers will connect Nineveh next turn and I will rail it too, so let them Iro's come. :)

1340AD - Bombard the stack and kill 4 Inf.

Upgrade more cannons.

1345AD - IT - Iro's destroy China. We lose a cav and MI, kill Inf.

Bombard a stack of 14 Inf and 2 guerillas, take it out losing 1 cav.

1350AD - Kill a dozen assorted units, lose none.

1355AD - Bombard 16 units down to one hp and remove them, losing 4 cavs.

We are still weak in military, the advisor says, but we're wearing them down.
When the stacks are removed we can counter.

I think it's safe to start factories now, if that is preferred, even I don't think we really need them.

I left some gold to spend, we can rush army for 832g or rush other stuff.

We have 39 arties, 58 cavs and 4 armies.

58% of land, this will be over soon.
