Tom Selleck 'stole water for ranch'

Yeah. Municipalities. Better known as "the people as an organized group". That keeps some of the people from "owning" what all of the people absolutely need in order to survive. Because if you let some people own what everyone needs in order to survive then those people are in "pay me whatever I want or die" position. That isn't a "free market," it's the basis of extortion.
Not having city-run water would be literally Somalia.

You are so blinded by this fantasy of "free market solves everything" that your understanding of basic economics is severely compromised.
And yet, I'm not responsible for California running out of water.

Two...the water wasn't actually for his avocado trees at all. Most applications for a construction company truckload of water have nothing to do with agriculture. He may have been doing compaction prior to putting in a patio or building a shed. He may have been having a party at the ranch and soaked the grounds for dust control. He may have been washing down his eight thousand foot driveway.
I already thought that might be true. Most people don't have the means to store and disseminate water. Has anybody noticed a water tower on his ranch? It's not like he could easily hide it behind some shrubbery.
