I always wanted to have a REALLy interesting war, with other civs at least the same or more powerful than me. At first, I tried to do that by giving all civs all my techs, but they still remained weak, with no infrastructure. Here's my plan:

Create a map where the AI get's huge islands with grassland, plains, some hills, and rivers.

I get a smaller island with lots of forest and hills, and a little bit of rivers.

Then I connect all the continents by small strips of MOUNTAIN.

To give the AI an even bigger advantage, I don't build my first city until 2000 BC. Do you guys think it will result in a challengin war, or neck to neck technology race?

The AI would probably still find a way to f**k things up for itself...lol

Red Front....

Just use the cheat menu to give them a kick a** army and infrastructure. Then play them attrition style on deity level. Have fun.

I've heard of a "Wait for Jesus" game where you just let your settlers sit there doing nothing and just keep hitting enter until 1 AD on Deity.

I still have yet to play a deity game, so I don't know if that's much of a challenge or not, but it could be interesting.

Not much of one on diety. I jus switch to republic, make my cities grow and then sit back and pump up on tech. Then I conquer the world and go back to growing on Civilization for points.

Well Vlad, if you create a custom map you'll automatically be giving yourself a huge advantage because you know the map and the AI doesn't! So the first thing you'll have to do, after giving away all your tech, is to exchange maps with them.

Multiplayer games suck. They finish so quickly without an interesting modern war.

I'll try Red Front...I always wanted to play a game where I'd actually be proud after I conquered the world. I could say:

"Millions of Red troops stormed into Germany. Heavy casualties were the result of Stalin's uneccessary advances, but the struggle resulted in the glorious battle of the Rhine. Heavy German artillary bombardment and the "Rhine Line" fortifications prevented the advance of Russian armour...."

Instead of:

"One division of tanks poured into Zululand. They're musketeers were wiped out instantly by my stealth fighters."

I am know in a pretty tough war campaign against the fellow japanese.

THE SITUATION:

1) in the civpowergraph we are both over the top, though i my civ is higher
2) deity level
3) 1.3 patch installed => heavy armor + dive bombers included
4) my largest city - 15; their largest city - 23
5) my population 17 mil; their 19 mil;
6) i'm a little ahead in domestic tech, both equal in military tech
7) my advantage #1 - the navy (they have no ships, neither do they build coastal fortresses)
8) my advantage #2 - i have many (10) very productive cities, which produce heavy armor in 3 turns or less.
9) their advantage #1 - i have the smallest army, almost no defence
10) their advantage #2 - they have mountains and hills on the front line, i have plains.
11) their advantage #3 - they are allied with everyone almost else, war means world war.

THE WAR (1934-1963):

I used a few diplomacy tricks, a few peace treaty tricks (i have the UN) and captured two of their coastal cities. I guess i pissed them off after a while, coz they broke the peace and came down the mountains with marines and armor. I held them off, but they got Armor Design, and recaptured the two coastal cities. In the northern front, I could not attack the advancing units, because of the terrain. The war turned out to be quite stressing, for i had to turn most of my industry towards unit production. After a while their offensicve dried out, and i took the hills one by one with my Heavy Armor. I thought that the battle would be over, but the japs wouldnt give up and defended quite well. I new i had to capture at least one of their cities and keep it as a strong point, but their defence was just to tough. So, i used my battleships to blow a hole in the front, my armor passed a few cities and caputered the recently battleship bombed out town of Osaka (19). The japs are still giving me a hard time, but i'm in hold of Osaka and plan to drive foward to another coastal town.

THE WORLD:

The Incas came to my side, and started a war with japanese-friendly russia, which also threw some troops into my-jap front. The English stay as yet neutral, though the inca-russo war takes place mostly by their territory.
The Incas captured a few russian towns, but the russians were a bit stronger and took them back.

For me, this is a great war campaign, because the AI proved to be a bit more strategic than i thought.
