Too Fast

Hello:
I don't see any way to slow down the game display. I have a pretty fast computer, and when the opponents play, I cannot follow the action. By the time my eyes focus on the action, it's usually too late. Two of my settlers and a worker were wiped out by barbarians - I just happened to see one settler fall down, had no idea what happened (I am new to this game). And the only way I knew a worker was gone, because I happend to wonder what he was doing (Had him on automatic) and I noticed he was gone. It had to be barbarians. And combat happens so quickly, I can barely see if a warrior has become elite, etc. Anyhow, is there a way to throttle down the display so I can see what's going on when the opponents play?
TIA

Hi Born_InTheUSA, welcome to CFC! :D

It sounds like your preferences (Control + P) somehow got changed. If you go into them, make sure things like "Animate Our Moves" "Animate Enemy Moves" "Animate Our Battles", etc. are all turned on. It sounds like it isn't animating anything. Also, if you have Conquests v1.22, make sure you don't have CAPS LOCK on (or for any other game, if you are holding down SHIFT), as that doesn't animate things too.

Yeah, that'd help, but on a newer/faster computer it still goes pretty quick.

You could try lowering the priority in the Task Manager, but I don't know if that would help any. I'm not real sure of anyway to slow the screens down.

Thanks for your help, ya'll!
In older games, when the disparity between computer speeds was so high, you used to be able to chage a setting in the .INI file to choke down the play speed (Ever played The Bard's tale?) IBM had the IBM PC/AT but most people still had 8088 processors :)
I'm getting enough experience, now that I can watch for important events. But some things still escape me. If you run across something, let me know! Thanks again!

Unfortunately, there's no .ini switch to slow down the game. The most you can do is turn on all the animations and hope that's enough.

I remember when I was playing Wing Commander on my dad's pentium, it was designed for a 486. I had a program that ran in the background and did something with the processer to slow down the game. But that was back in '94. Not sure if something like that exists anymore.
