too greedy to save Tribal Villages?

I'm thinking of trying a new approach to tribal villages in my next game. Instead of popping them as I go I'm going to pin them on the map and pick them up after I've hit all of the easily obtainable eurekas in the early game. The hope is that I'll then be able to squeeze a few extra eurekas that wouldn't have been available to me otherwise, but the fear is another civ's scout will snatch them up before I'm ready. Has anyone tried this tactic? If so, did you find it worth the risk of losing the tribal village altogether?

I have observed some goody huts persisting till the late game, even on occupied landmasses. I even saw one immediately adjacent to Arabian borders. I suspect that the AI only pursue them in the Ancient Era, but ignore them after.

I say, try it once and get back to us on the results.

AI pretty much ignores goody huts entirely. They will collect them if they happen to accidentally step on them, but otherwise, pretty much no reaction.

I haven't tried it as a strategy but I have popped a number of huts late (since the AI does tend to ignore them) and the results were rather lackluster - I usually end up getting a scout or a minor faith / gold boost. I can't recall getting any Eurekas after the ancient era so it may be best to just grab them early.

I got a Eureka for Nuclear Fission in one of my first games. I found that rather hilarious back then. "You find the remains of a primitive tribe ..."

I don't think that is a very good tactic.

First of all I think shaving turns of the early techs is worth more, simply because early advantages tend to snowball. Late in the game it's all but decided anyway.
Also, the AI will pop a fair amount of huts by coincidence and by settling. So you'll most likely end up with far fewer huts.

However, I usually build a ship with the coastal raid ability as soon as I get the chance to sweep the huts the AI on the other continent (as I use to play mostly continent maps) missed, as well as the poles and small islands. That usually happens quite a bit later in the game.

Eurekas are just one of many rewards of the huts. Most of the other reward are great only in the beginning of the game. I often make long trips in the late game to pick a forgotten hut, just to be awarded something like 50 gold when my income is 500 gold per turn. But 50 gold in the first turns is a treasure.
