.......53!

Yes, I played Civ 1 on a 286 Compaq Notebook.

EMan.
P.s. This Group should be eligible for the Senior discount on Civ 4!

I'm amazed that there's such diversity in the forum demographic! I’m also hugely impressed that we have players over eighty – I hope you’re still playing (and probably beating us) when you’ve broken three figures. :) I’ve got a while to go myself, being a sprightly twenty-three!

I’ve been playing the civ series since I got a demo of the original on a copy of “ST Format”. I’ve still got the issue somewhere – perhaps I’ll dig it out and post it here. I still remember being impressed when I saw the 286 version where there was lapping water at the coast. :D

44 only.
Part of he senior as I had to check the +41 box.
That's OK I like the idea for the senior discount on CIV 4.

44, been hooked since Civ didn't have a number after it. Only problem I have is my sons object because Mom gets engrossed in taking over the world and dinner doesn't get fixed, laundry sits, bill might not get paid...

It's good for them, Brynna. Builds character and independence. They need to learn to cook, anyway, assuming they're big enough to reach the stove.
Welcome to CFC.

25..... i started playing at 18 (back in '96) after discovering Civ1 on a Combo disc..days later i had Civ2 and my addiction was assured! Its great everyone plays Civ....I'll be playing at 85! :D

Sorry I missed some of the replies to my original post. I lost where it was and finally had time to find it ( I was actually spending time playing CIV3 PTW). :D I gon't know if this is an innapropriate change but I noticed a retired USAF player. Just curious, what are everyone's proffesion. I'm primary Consumer Services (laid off now and having a dog of a time finding work.) I'm just wondering if there is a relation to the type of work one does and their need to play CIV3 to nourish the mind. For me, it's an excape from the nasties you deal with at work (when I had work).

You must have lots of time to play PTW now, John!

my year of birth would be quite exident if you meet me, for my youth may shoch and astond you, i am 3 and one mounth

Well I am 41, and started playing CivII when it came out. I've enjoyed how the Civ universe has expanded and changed as time has gone by.

28- started with Civ2 a few years ago and I now have three co-workers hooked on Civ3 PTW.

Just kinda wondering what age groups live in the CIV III realm. My wife says I'm too old to play. ( 38+ )

As long as one has an appreciation for culture, history, strategy and other intelligent things, one is never too old to play Civ III. It's not like it's some stupid kid's game or something. :>

I'm 35 and have only been playing Civ2 and Civ3 for about two years, but my intensity of play makes me feel like a 75 year old. I credit Sid Meier with my carpal tunnel syndrome and ulnar neuopathy............maybe I should consult a personal injury lawyer........yeah! That's the ticket!

My son who is 10 (I am 50) brought this home two months ago(early April 2003). From the opening video roll and the music score my pulse quickened and I was badly hooked.
Now....... The lawn is a mess, the Garden has been given up on, I haven't checked my email in a month, utility bills are on second notice because I have a mail stack almost two feet tall (checking mail cuts into my playing time). I regularly get by on three hours sleep lately (one night I played until 4am and only quit then because my carpool buddy was in the driveway-And I work in heavy construction...Yikes...). I go to bed worrying about my tenous position on some resource or other and I wake up furious about Cleopatra (the *****) still tromping through my territory with her settlers. "Rest assured Ceasar, my troops will leave shortly" Yeah, right. I plan my revenge all day at work and grit my teeth and mutter obscenities at the computer screen while consciously having to force myself to relax my death grip on that poor mouse all night until exhaustion forces me to reluctantly do the unwelcome inevitable (left click 'save file').
The bad news is that I've been taking quite a thrashing at the hands of the cgc (computer generated civilizations). The good news is that I am becoming much better and now I pretty much rock at Warlord level. The bad news is that I have virtually abandoned the rest of my life ( I have, however, been forced into negotiating some quality time with my girlfriend- A diplomacy win I feel). The good news is that I have lost 20 pounds on my new CivIII diet (play all day, forget to eat). The bad news is that every cow I see makes me want to holler "Cows!...... get 'em!" The good news is that my son and I are learning a lot about the role of technology in human history and laughing our asses off together while discussing our inept playing style. The bad news is that I AM addicted. The good news is that I am having a fabulous time.................My hats off to Sid and crew

Gosh, bosatsu, this all sounds very familiar. Here are a few solutions I've found to some of the issues you raise:
Lawn care - I hired someone to mow it.
Utility bills - remind yourself that if the electricity is turned off, you can't play Civ 3.
Sleep - you can actually wean yourself off of the mythical need for more sleep. 3 hours should be adequate for people in our age bracket.
Continue to have fun.

I'm 17. I first remember playing Civ2 in 1996 or before. I just don't remember. What I do remember is that my uncle gave me a copy, I played it for a while, then I was discusted with the graphics. I ended up adding techs, creating better art for the terrain, units, ect. Now, I program for fun. :borg: Go figure. Civ2 may not have been my start with programming (I started when I was 5  ), but it sure sparked a large interest in me. Maybe if I get better at 3D art (right now I'm using the x file format), then I possibly will be able to make better art than I can now. So, has anyone elses lives been impacted so much by Civilization. :groucho:

i am 14 and i cant remember when i got Civ 2 for my Playstation (I nver had a pc then) and i only bought it because i wanted something different but it is great and i still play it today i have only tried a demo of call to power.
