Top 5 rpg

Edit: Joking, I always plug my laptop into the wall because the battery now will run out of energy in 45 min.

Anyone ever play the might and magic games? I have never played them. I'm assuming they are action rpg's? I see Might and Magic X: Legacy sitting on steam, just wondering if anyone has played it.

Yes. I love Might and Magic games, but haven't played the newer one. I hear it's pretty decent. You can't go wrong with MM5, 6, 7 and 8 (if you can stand the older graphics, which were amazing back in the days!). They are not "action rpgs" in the sense that Diablo, Torchlight or Path of Exile are. They are either turn-based, or can be paused to go into a turn-based system when combat occurs. There's usually a fair amount of exploration involved. They do tend to have a lot of monsters to kill, but the "loot" is usually gotten from exploration, and not the killing of monsters itself. The monsters don't usually respawn until a veeeery long time, so you don't really grind up levels either. The point of these games is not the leveling and the loot itself, I'd say, as it often is in Action RPGs, not that this is a problem, I quite enjoy Action RPGs.

I'm playing Might and Magic X: Legacy right now (well, last night and probably this night) actually.

It's a solid game, although it has some issues.

Combat requires some real tactical thinking, the story seems decent so far, the setting is nice. So... it's fun to play. Also a definite nostalgia kick if you played RPGs back in the 90s.

That said, it has issues too. It's not a very well-optimized game (they aren't exactly building off a powerful engine - the Unity engine is most commonly used for cheap flash web browser games). They worked wonders with what they have, and its graphics are actually not bad... but they certainly won't have you writing home. The audio effects are, again, decent but nothing to write home about. Although personally I'm happy about them because they straight-up reused some of the best ones from earlier games in the series, which brings back memories. It's got some bugs; I ran into a couple involving authentication (for some reason, when I start UPlay in offline mode it seems to sometimes think I'm playing the demo version and not the full version). Other people have reported other bugs of varying severity. And you will want to save regularly - once you're in combat with something, either you win or you die. There is no retreat. Which is a little frustrating in a game that deliberately makes the world open and non-leveled so you're free to go to areas with difficulty way beyond your current ability if you want (or if you just get lost).

I'm pretty much a TES fan at this point. Morrowind, oblivion, and skyrim were all awesome in their own way, though oblivion is my favorite since it was my first and I find it so, so charming.

I'd also put crusader kings ii in my top rpg list, even though it's strictly speaking a strategy rpg hybrid.

oblivion is my favorite since it was my first and I find it so, so charming.

this is so touching, I feel like I want to cut a cake or something  at last someone who have a same point of view with me regarding the beauty and charm of oblivion! Indeed Oblivion is one of the most beautiful game around!

Oblivion is beautiful i have to admit it. The first time i played it when i finally got out of the dungeon into the bright daylight and had a look around the bucolic landscape around cyrodiil with all those nice trees reflecting on the lake i was like wow!

From that point onwards it all went downhill, though.

Morrowind and skyrim, in my opinion, are objectively superior games - the former because of amazing worldbuilding and cultural immersion, the latter due to graphics and better game mechanics. And yet, I just find Oblivion more fun. Perhaps I like its side quests more. Maybe because of the charmingly hammy voice acting. Or from the pretty scenery. I dunno. I just like it the mist out of all the TES games, all of which I enjoy nevertheless.

Too bad the pretty scenery is marred by those ugly oblivion gates (and closing those weren't really fun for me). Sometimes I wonder what is wrong with me that I can't enjoy Oblivion when everyone else does.

Anyone know if there are any new mods out to make the character leveling system like Skyrim? That might be tempting to get me to check out the game again and maybe actually finish it (most i got was 1/8 or 1/4 of the way through I think).

There are TONS of mods for oblivion, I'm sure there's ones to improve leveling. I'm pretty sure someone told me there's a mod that makes everything straight up xp based.

My preferred leveling mod is called Galerion's mod or something like that. I like it because it's simple, and because I don't like stuff that completely changes the game and in my opinion makes it 293837372 times more complicated when I just wan to play the darn game. Anyhow Galerion's is basically is a compromise between Skyrim and Oblivion - some of your attributes level up when you increase your skill levels (so for instance if you increase your blade skill three times you increase your strength by one - I mean not exactly those numbers, but that's the general idea), but when you level up you can also assign three attribute points like in normal Oblivion. To me it is simple, makes sense, and still allows you a degree of freedom.

Bethesda has some huge problems with the notion of "restraint". Be it the godawful amount of Oblivion gates or the godawful amount of dragons, they seem unable to realize that subtlety is the key.

Hopefully, there is plenty of mods to rein in back this bonanza to a manageable level ^^

Oblivion wasn't enjoyable past 5-10 hours until OOO. Once you realized the atrocious level scaling, it just wrecked all immersion and you bumped more and more into the design problems it created.

What part of the leveling are you looking for ?

If it's about removing the level scaling, there is the above-mentioned OOO (Oscuro Oblivion Overhaul, the mod that few in the Bethesda community would even consider to play Oblivion without).

If it's about removing the annoying need to count and juggle with the skill-ups to get the exact x5 stat multiplier at each level, I've made a small mod that make it all seamless (you don't get any multiplier at level-up, you just gain additionnal stat point on the spot when you increase your skills during gameplay).

If it's none of this, please be more precise ^^

Happy to help! maybe you can Try this

This is the description
Spoiler :
For those unfamiliar with Oblivion XP, it is a levelling system replacement. The Oblivion levelling system is based on skill use to improve the skills themselves and their associated attributes. However, for many players this has turned out to be a tedious exercise that forced them to use skills that did not fit their roleplaying experience in order to improve certain attributes. It also required a certain degree of "micromanagement" if you wished to get the maximum attribute bonuses when you increased in level.

Oblivion XP aims to change all that. It brings the experience point reward system to Oblivion. You gain experience points for performing a variety of actions, including completing quests, killing monsters, picking locks or discovering new locations. When you accumulate enough experience points, you will gain a new level. Upon gaining the new level, you spend points to increase your attributes and skills. You no longer improve your skills by using them. You earn experience points by action and spend an allotted number of points on skills and attributes to improve them, anyway you wish, when you level-up.

SirFrederik is the original author of this mod. He devised the mathematical formulae that control the number of points you need to level and the number of experience points you receive for various actions. The system he designed is complete and operates as a balanced and comprehensive unit. I will not be altering any of this underlying logic. He also made Oblivion XP extremely customizable through settings in the ini file so that this system would work with a variety of playing styles.

Levelling in Oblivion like in Morrowind it can be quite tiring, but this will solve the problem, but I don't know though if it compatible or not with OOO. And for more immersion I recommend you to try to download companion Vilja. She not just an ordinary companion, she can interact with many of your surrounding, and give more dynamic to the game, she more than just simply a companion. You can check it up if you like.

King of Dragon Pass for ios IS AMAZING!!!!! Best game worth $10. My seatmate on the long airplane ride end up play the game with me and we make decisions together.

It's actually an old PC game, I got the original box from back in the days. I got a gog.com copy recently. It's amazing indeed. It's... sort of an RPG... A crossbreed between strategy, RPG, and Oregon Trail. I wish they'd port it to Android.

Finally found my Oblivion disk and giving it another shot. I'm not likely to finish the game. Even Morrowind and Skyrim I only finished once (with several other partial games). It seems I only like to play for a little while. The story isn't enough to interest me. But so far I'm enjoying the rogue/archer type build. Wood elf.

Story (at least the main quest) usually isn't the reason a lot of people play and are drawn to TES anyways (even the glorious morrowind a number of TES fans rave about). Lots of TES fans like one of my friends will proudly proclaim how they've played 7657645436559779 hours of TES and have not finished the first quest in the main questline.

And I forgot how bad the interface was. :) But it's really no worse than Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas I guess. But it's a step down from Skyrim. And I seem to remember the game looking better than this. I upped the graphic settings, but still doesn't look that pretty like Skyrim.

Ueah, it definitely ain't as good looking as skyrim. Skyrim even on medium-low settings as absolutely breathtaking the first time I ran around in the wilderness. Though Oblivion has its charm.
