TOT on XP

i have just aquired ToT and installed it on my brand new, 1.8 ghz pentium 4. to my utter horror, the game, when started up, would only give me the loading screen and revert straight back to the desktop. As i run on xp, i tried it in various compatability modes and turned of all my virus checks and background tasks and ran it in 256 colours in 640*480 resolution, to no avail!
i run in xp, and civ2 mge works perfectly.
And i was looking forward to playing dictator II aswell...........

I use XP and haven't had any problems. Maybe you should just delete the program and resinstall.

Random Task have you tried any/all of the following:
uninstallingand reinstalling (ala Shields)
upgrading to version 1.1
getting the latest indeo video drivers and codecs from www.ligos.com
making sure all windows updates and your video and sound card drivers are upto date.
