Diplomacy games take a looong time to finish, so if I start the warm up in the begining of March, it'll end in May/June, then the tourney is a few monthes away.
I'm in. I'm not sure about a warm-up, though-- my March and April will be completely filled by term papers and exams. I would be free if it started as late as May, though.
I too am happy to be in, though not sure about the warm up, I don't see what value that would have. Better to get some games in at redscape against other people, cos we will be playing apart from our teammates.
Its a tournament held in Fall every 2 years. Its against more than 50 teams. IT IS BIG. We came in second to last our last time around.... but we may do better this time.
Advancement by round is based on individual score, not by team, so the more members who get into the later rounds, the better the team does. I volunteer to play for a CFC team, however I'd rather not captain it again...
Rank is based solely on number of turns played in any kind of game, minus penalties for NMRs or abandonments. I went up from Adjutant to Attache after only one game as a replacement, and I went up another rank after my second game, so it isn't hard at all to go up in rank. Anyone who started two Redscape games now and managed to stay in both until, say, 1905 would likely advance at least one rank before PG7 started next September. Just don't NMR or abandon. The whole point of the rankings there is to help the community weed out people who aren't reliable...a major reason why I play more over there than over here
The captain is required to submit all player information and has to find replacements - in the last game we had FOUR people playing France and it got quite annoying. I am sure we can run the position by committee, however the tournament directors do need a contact point person.
And regarding Redscape rank: I believe the recently revised rules for advancement are even easier - you can go up to the second rank (which is the minimum rank for the PG tourney) by simply playing in 6 game years and NMR-ing during a move turn no more than once!
