One of the most frustrating aspects of CivII is the instruction manual's index, which has been created by simply doing computer word searches.

If you go to the index to find out about a game construct, instead of being directed to the page (or pages) on which the construct is explained, you find only a list of all those pages on which the name of the construct appears (and this is more often than not only a brief mention or listing) . You have to then search all those pages to get the information you seek.

It troubles me that Sid Meier and company, who tended to so many details to create such a wonderful game, were so lax in indexing the instruction manual that helps players enjoy the product of their efforts. It would not have been a particularly difficult task for some knowledgeable staffer(s) to have gone through each index entry and put the pages in boldface type that contain useful explication.

I ask my fellow fanatics:

Do you feel my pain? Have you too suffered through index aggravation? (Indeed, has the topic been raised earlier in this forum?)

Does anyone know if the CivIII design team is aware of the problem: and, if they are aware, are they properly concerned?

If they are either unaware or unconcerned, how can we most effectively alter that reality so that the instruction manual we receive with CivIII is indexed in a much more user friendly manner?

I think the Civ2 Manual is very complete. I never use the index because I read the entire manual once then rarely open it again.

It is embarassing that I didn't know the flag of the city reflects the defense: no flag means no garrision units. I didn't know that until a month ago (thanks to Hakan!).

All I hope is that I will be avalible in Swedish. It's a real pain to read thousands of pages in English.
