TR05 - Shhhh... We're going to the moon

Pre-turn – Nothing to do.

IBT – The Indian warrior moves south, but the Ottoman warrior moves next to our undefended capital. Damnit. There’s nothing I can do. No Enks are close enough to defend. A barb also appears next to our worker by SH.

2510 (1) – Move Enk to guard worker. Cross fingers.

IBT – The Ottomans declare. -_- They take QLT and 4 gold.

2470 (2) – Kill the barb. Should I move the worker on the wheat away? I don’t think I need to. There’s only one warrior in QLT, and if I know the AI, they never leave a city undefended.
Hmm, when the Ottomans captured QLT, thatmade SH the capital, making it produce an extra shield since it had no waste, so now the growth is behind the worker’s completion (the worker was going to complete when the city grew). Interesting.

IBT – Worker is left untouched.

2430 (3) – Switch worker to Enkidu.

2390 (4) – SH Enk->worker. MM to get Alpha in 5.

2350 (5) – Next turn, QLT is ours again (hopefully…).

2310 (6) – SH worker->barracks. Damnit! Now there’s a spear in QLT. Lose one Enk and redline the other taking out the spear…our GA starts at least. Alpha due in 2.

2270 (7) -

IBT – Alpha in, start on WC due in 5 @ 90%, -1 gpt.

2230 (8) -

2190 (9) – Finish irrigating cow, start roading it. We should be able to take back QLT next turn.

2150 (10) – Move the workers to a BG. I left the two Enkidus unmoved. Maybe the next person will have better luck with the RNG. There’s just that one warrior left, I believe, but the RNG gods have not been kind to me.

The Ottomans have exploded power-wise. They're the largest nation now (6% land, 35% pop). They were the weakest in score at the beginning of my turns, and now they're first. Perhaps they're attacking India, too?

Sorry guys. Can anyone see anything I could have done differently to prevent this? We can forget these turns never happened… :mischief:

Ouch.... It's a shame we have our Golden Age with only a 2 pop town. Well SW, you wanted to wait to take your turns... I looks like I might not play this again. Bede might not play at all

Should I roll some more starts for TR6? I'd like to try this one again if we fall on our face.

Ooo, ouch. :cringe: Looks like you guys were right about the AI's aggressiveness after all....

I'm not quite ready to give up on this one yet (if we can retake QLT, I think we have at least a fighting chance), but if we do fail, I'm certainly willing to try it again.

preturn - i go for broke. wake to 2 EWs and attack QLT.
AND LOSE BOTH. :suicide:
1- road under workers.
2- move to connect silks. up lux, after i lowered sci.
3-
4- WC in > Wheel in 7. rax in > EW.
5- silks connected. mine BG.
6- EW > EW.
7-
8- EW > EW. now making 10s so we have a 1 turn EW maker.
9- EW > EW.
10- Wheel > HBR. EW > EW.

i have 2 EW ready with 2 more enroute.
ill play 2 more to see what happens.

11-2 EWs die promoting that warrior to E, but also leaving him redlined. 3rd and final full health EW attacks.

Looks like I'm up here, too. No rest for the wicked. Or for me....

Got it. I'll try to get it played tomorrow night, but I've got SGOTM 8 first, so this one might get bumped another day.

And I'll try very hard to make sure Bede gets to play at least once. :)

Where is the closest horse?

Has anyone ever come back from such a setback?

Whisperer to Horses is at work now, dreading the huge tasks awaiting him at home.
killing the Persians in Bedes' trainer (1.5 turns done in 2 hours) and looks possible AND Killing the Aztecs in Igor's world conquest (3 turns & 4 hours to go?)

Ohh, wrong spam thread ;)

and a set back yes, but fatal? we lost about 15 turns? and a wasted GA? we can overcome this with some careful planning and some RNG luck (and i think IroP used up our allotment of bad RNG luck....)

So we have no iron nor horse?

The silent part is going to be the hard part of coming back in this game.

This just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it? Agree that HBR might not be the most useful tech to research right now. Do we have Warrior Code yet? Looks like we're going to need archers....

Indeed. I wouldn't be surprised if Minute Man got a leader during his turns...
Unfortunately, I think I used up all my good luck in my other game last night...I got three leaders in a single turn (two on offense and one on defense). That's about a game and a half's worth of leaders for me right there...

Besides, what would we do with a leader if we had one? We don't even have enough cities for an army. And what would we put in it...Enkidus? Archers?

WC is a pre-requisite for HBR so we do have it. Good luck.

OK, that's some good news, at least. What to research, then? Time to head down the Alpha/Writing/Lit path?

Comeback should go pretty smooth. Think AW tactics and strategy and all will be well.

This is a time for defense, not offense, so spawn Enks and settlers. Gotta get the towns up and running and protected.

Alpha/writing/literature. Skip the government thing for now and keep settling along rivers and lakes.

Since you likened this to AW, are you suggesting that we go for the Bede's Big Book Bindery?
