Yeah, that's your reputation busted.

The AI doesn't mind giving per-turn items (in this case, gold) in exchange for per-turn items when you have a busted rep, because it doesn't "cost" them anything if you break it.

With the 1 gold for ivory, you could break it and the AI thinks "OMG he could just take my 1 gold!!!!", which is technically correct.

Of course, obviously assuming you let the deal last one turn, the 1 gold instead of 25 gpt is a better deal--but the AI doesn't think that way.

Yeah you are right, she wouldn't take gpt from me under any circumstance. No such scruples when it comes to a valuable tech though. She would give me 4000 gold and two techs for Atomic Theory.

Never mind, I am quite happy with the 500 gold (20x25) I will get for my Ivory anyway
