One welcome change in the new patch is that the AI pays less for luxuries - 240g seems the max - and usually drives a much tougher bargain than that unless you have a substantial unblemished history with them. They also bargain over OB more, and are less likely to trade it.

If you want to make quick friends in the early game, gift them open borders. The positive boost from giving them something for free can be enough to get they to offer DoF.

Whoa.

I keep forgetting that the AI is susceptible to bribery. Thanks for reminding me.

They pay less for luxuries because now they provide one less happiness.

You know, I had read about this in the pre-patch discussions. Yet, I have sold luxuries to several AIs for 300g [post-patch, Aztecs, Emperor, standard speed, standard continents map].

Post patch, you need a DoF to get really good deals for lux and strategic resources. If you don't have it, you get a great deal less money. Pays to keep on at least some of thier good sides now.

Open Borders now also vary a lot. Civs on your own continent are much more likely to drive a hard (uneven) bargain. On the other hand, I've gotten as much as 53g from a friendly civ on a a different continent.
