Hi everybody. I'm thinking about picking up the original Civ in its entire DOS packaging glory. I don't have a 486 anymore though but I do have a Dell running XP with a floppy disk drive. So is it possible to get the data off of those floppies using that machine and then transfer everything via usb to a flash drive? I'm planning on playing it using Dosbox on another computer via the flash drive transfer and then also making a CD backup.

If this is possible what is the best way to save the files so it will work? I see that Civ had four disks so a separate folder for each or just one big folder?

I didn't see anything about this on the site so if it has been asked before then just post where that info is. Thanks!

... floppy disk drive....

I just went to PC running XP sp3 put the first of the four disk. Opened up CMD, switch to A: and tried to run install.bat. I received a message about unexpected goto. It failed to load. So as it states in the install.bat I attempted to do a manual load which is simply copying the files from the floppy to the directory you choose. Its that easy.

just one big folder> x:\mps\civ
This is the place civdos normally runs from, but anything is ok
