Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye Units

Very cool Tom, Soundwave was always my favourite transformer, next to the awesome triple changing Scorponok, which I own the toy of.

Are you planning to make a mod, Tom?

Yeah, I sold all my toys ages ago but thankfully I sold Scorponok to my younger brother and I bought it back off him a few years later when I realised what a mistake it had been. One day if I'm rich and bored maybe I'll start collecting more transformer toys. My Scorponok is a bit broken but pretty much whole.

How could you do his three different forms (battle base, scorpion and humanoid)? Battle base as fortified perhaps, scorpion as movement and humanoid as attack perhaps. Would be very cool. Hard to make though I would imagine.

Well, the best way so far I have found would be something as you mentioned, as well as combining transforming sequences into the attack animations.

You are right on there, scorpion as run and default, base as fortified, and perhaps initial attack1 as the base firing then transforming to humanoid, attack2 as humanoid form for the remainder of attack.

I'm going to make an alternative FLC to Soundwave, because sometimes the fortify animation doesn't have time to play out properly in game.

How's your fantasy mod going by the way?

Very, very slow.

I haven't got much time for modding, though if I spent less time on Civfanatics I might get more done.

I'm still really in the planning stage, getting together unit lines, figuring out game play etc. I'm putting together a basic test mod to test some of the features and if that actually works then I can start seriously putting it together. I still don't know if the whole hero characters idea will work but I'm hopeful it will.

Something I might do, but that will take quite a lot of work is make a lot of 'building units' to place on the map to make much bigger scale cities that cover many tiles. The buildings will be on impassable terrain so units can't cover them up. I made a few test units, one with an animation (blacksmiths bellows). They looked pretty good in game.

Dude!! These are simply amazing!! :crazyeye:

I love them! So, where were you three years ago when I was making my Civ3 Transformers mod? :( Seriously though, your units are sweet enough for me to consider going back to Civ3. They are gorgeous and it's painful that our projects did not coincide timewise.

I am working on a Transformers mod for BtS and was thinking of linking to my announcement thread work from my Civ3 post and stumbled upon this thread. I have unfortunately deleted most my Civ3 work and unistalled C3C. You might find some advisors made by myself and KUSANG to be fun if not useful.

If you ever get into Civ4 unit making, let me know. I hope to teach myself this summer. We could make some sweet units. If you want to help with my mod, even if you don't have Civ4 or like it, but simply as fellow G1 fan with ideas to throw around, please let me know.

Keep up the great work! :goodjob:

3 years ago, I didn't know how to make a unit! It takes time transforming them, and I'm glad you posted this, because I feel like doing another one. :)

I like Civ 4, but Civ 3 (the old style, along with Alpha Centauri, GC, etc) are my kind of games. The Old School! Of course, I think it would be much, much, much, much more difficult to make a Civ 4 unit, because you would have to have the mesh actually fit together very very well when it transforms. You can't use the little tricks I use for Civ 3, to 'make it happen'.

Has anyone made a transformer that transforms for BtS? That would be an amazing thing that would even interest me in booting the old Civ 4 back up to see it in action. What did you plan on using for units?

Good Stuff Tom... I think Transformers are Cool but they happened far too late for me to get into them and be among the Fanatics who probably grew up with them.
I like the way you handle the Transformation Animations...that is a chore :goodjob:

I grew up in the 80s (born in 1979) so i was watching them, but they weren't my favourite show, despite the intrigue between the two Decepticon protagonists :)

I remember Tom's unit. I thought it would win that month's contest.

I will probably just normal vehicles for units and learn to make the others for their robot modes. I use place holder art for now. Civ4 I feel is better for modding, but Civ3 is much easier, even if somewhat more limited.

I may still have some of my files for the mod I started. If you ever decide you would like to start one, I would definitely be up for some collaboration. The main reason I stopped was because I lost a lot of files somehow and did want to redo those things. Truthfully, I wasn't far along though. The main thing was losing the excel file where I assigned unit attributes based on the tech specs of each character.

Anyway, keep up the great work and like I said, if you get ambitious with a G1 mod, let me know. I am your guy. :goodjob:
