I'm a little bit confused about the way that trade routes and trading resources works in BtS, and have a couple of questions.

1. How do they go from continent to continent?
2. Can you benefit from a trade route going from a nation to another nation that isn't yours, but your kind of in the middle of the 2 cities?(Land or sea, totally clueless)
3. If you are trading a resource, and you sever the trade route, does that stop the trade?
4. In the diplomacy screen, I will frequently only see the AI having 1 or 2 resources, when they have over 7 cities. Why is that?
5. If you are in between 2 cities that are trading over water (different or same nation), can you cut off the trade route?

First of all I asked the same qustion 2 days ago so try to read a little bit before you post :)
any way I not to smart about trade routs but I think I can help you a little bit:

1. You make trade routs from continent to continent with harbors (that can be built only on costal citys) in the early stage of the game and later one you can build airports (in any city).

2. I really dout it BUT it can be really a nice idea for next games of civ or something like that.

3. If I understood you qustion: you do not need to have open borders with another civ to trade goods with her.

4. If you have in your civ a rout to cows, and you have 7 citys, every one of your citys will enjoy the cows BUT it does not mean that you have 7 cows! When you with to trade goods, that number of actuale resourses in your cultere border that whats matters.

5. Sorry. I dont know that answer to that qustion.

You do NOT need a harbor to trade over the water, the Sailing tech lets you trade over the water (if you have a city by the coast or a river) and the Astronomy tech lets you trade over the ocean.

#5 (civs A, B and C - you are civ B)
First, trade routes are one-way. City A can have trade routes with cities in civ C IF A has open borders with you. Same goes for civ C.

I.E., if civ C does NOT have open borders with you (and all possible trade routes go through you) then C will not have any trade routes with civ A, although civ A will still have trade routes with civ C. If you close borders to both civs then neither will have trade routes from the other. The same applies to you if another civ is between you and your trading partner. Barbarians count as a civ in this situation and you can never have open borders with the barbarian state.

Ok guys, thanks. By the way, what I meant about the AI and 7 cities is that by the time anyone gets to 7 cities, they should have at least 4 resources by around turn 150. But they don't. I'm just using the number of cities to explain how much l;and they have.

And I thought this thread was going to be about if tanks should leave tread marks for infantry to follow.
