Trebuchet

@Crighton - final code is in mini mod. It includes main files you need to change and code for trebuchet is first.

@woodelf - I can't do it atm, my semester brake is over. Maybe later.

@crighton:

Problem with the minimod is it just adds the trebuchet as a second catapult with exactly the same attributes.

i could send you a PM where i modded it to come with machinery (catapult then with iron-working)

catapult chaged to cost 30 (before 40) same strength as before but city bombardment only 10% (15%) and collateral damage to 5 units (6)

trebuchet has strength 8 city bombardment 15% and collateral 6 units costs 60

oh and i also changed the formation (so it looks like all the other artillery units - next to each other

today i will also change it the way that it will appear on the citybar when it is being produced.

@ sharick: i hope you have no problem with me altering your unit and minimod this way and to distribute it to other community members - if so, just point it out here and i won´t do it!

@Duke van Frost - no problem at all, in fact I'm glad somebody uses my unit and my work is not wasted.
The minimod I made was just for testing the unit and to give you basic idea how to implement it.
Btw. the same applies for all my units. Just don't try to sell it ;)

hm... seems one can´t attach files to a PM so i´ll post the files for my trebuchet mod right here.

not charging anything at all ;)

hope somebody likes it!

A Version with a new icon can be found on post #31

Just unzip the archives as they are to:

It will add a new mod called Trebuchet to your game.

The model for the trebuchet unit is made by sharick!

Changes to the game:

Catapult is now available with iron-working, has strength 5 (no change), costs 30 (40 before), city bombardment of 10% (15% before), collateral damage limit to 40% (before 50%), collateral damage to maximum 5 units (6 before)

Catapult now upgrades to trebuchet

Trebuchet is available with engineering has strength 8, costs 60, city bombardment 15%, collateral damage limit 50%, collateral damage to maximum 6 units

Trebuchet upgrades to cannon

horse archer and keshik gain 50% strength bonus towards catapult and trebuchet!

No text for the civilopedia right now!

have fun!

you´ll have to load a mod, i´ve done it this way because the citybar seems only to show the icon for production if it is in a mod not in the custom assets folder!

but you can alter the civilization.ini file in the custom assets folder the way that the game always loads with the mod (so you don´t have to reload).

first, if you do not already know, you can find the file in this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\\My Documents\My Games\Civilization4

the line you must change is:

Mods=0
to
Mods=Mods/Trebuchet

I just changed the icon for the trebuchet in this version.

I used a graphic somebody on this forum did for CivIII as a basis (but can´t remember his name)

So, here´s the new file:

Thank you Duke van Frost
How if I want other mods as well?:confused:

Then you´ll have to merge all of those mods you want into one put it in a subfolder under the mods folder and change "Mods=Mods/Trebuchet" to "Mods=Mods/your_folder_name".

The difficult part is merging the mods, if they altered the same files.

is it just me or does it seem like the trebuchet was purposely left out so that they can put it in an expansion. anybody else think so.

IIRC, the trebuchet was already announced as a new unit in Warlords. ;)
