Tribute1: The Paranoid Peaceful People

yo, tribute...
you seem to have forgotten some details...
such as?
which civ are we after all?
my feel from the posts is either India or Greece

care to roll some starts so we can discuss which ones?

Ok so Monarch level with India or Greece as our civ.

I think commercial and industrious's extra shield/commerce work for cities and metros. Not for towns because that would be very very unbalanced and lead to a super fast tech pace for those who choose, England (com and sea).

I'll roll some starts. We will get whatever we get. I'd rather have more of a challenge than an easy game though.

Wow, I got really bad luck on these starts. Well, at least for the capital.

You can see a floodplain wheat 2S of the India start.
You can see an ivory luxury 2 NE of the Portugal start.

I vote for the India start. We will be very likely to win that with the FP wheat in Bombay (Mumbai for those who insist :mischief: ).

Greece (Jungle and Grass [good for production]
GreeceStart.jpg

India (Floodplains [good for growth] and Grass [good for production])
IndiaStart.jpg

Portugal (we might as well listen to civ 3 veterans :salute: plains [okay for production especially during GA])
PortStart.jpg

Sumeria (desert and grass [good production and maybe growth if there are rivers])
SumeriaStart.jpg

So what do you guys think? :hmm:

The India start looks the most productive.
My suggestion, use Delhi as the 20k city.
With some luck that city can soon produce 26 spt!!!

not really going to be part of this SG but......
may I have the Portugal start? I want to see if i can win.

1- if my fog gazing is right, theres some FP over to the NEish direction, move to the 'bacco and you can get some FPs
2- I would move E one to get all three BGs, like Tatran said, it can be good for a 20k or something
3- Some how you're going to have to get those two whales in the ocean, i would move one to the east even though losing the river
4- If you're agr you dont have to fear deserts, for agr civs they're like plains. Move SW one.

1. Tribute India
2. soul warrior Greece
3. CoolioVonHoolio Greece
4. Pentium ?
5. Tatran India
6. dl123654 ?

So it's between India and Greece. The first to vote out of Pentium and dl123654 will be the deciding vote since we shouldn't waste time or have a 3 to 3 vote.

Ghandi sat on his seat surveying the people. The men carrying him across the high mountains down the river to a hot and humid grassy area. The animals there were plentiful. Also, the wood and stones there could easily build him a beautiful palace.

However, he had to be patient. Now was not the time for pleasure and grandeur. His people were suffering. They were tired from walking over the earth. They were afraid the rest of the world would surpass their might. Thus, they begged with the Mahatma to let them settle down. There was after all no need to be warlike nomads.

Yes, Ghandi decided. “We will settle here and show the world our wealth and culture. And we will not stoop so low as to follow their ideas. If we have the perfect city, they will bow down to us for our greatness!” he exclaimed to his people. A rousing cheer followed and the city of Delhi was set quickly set up.

A band of warriors was gathered and trained to explore the lands around them. Their strength would help them survive harsh lands and obviate any aggressive plans in the hearts of India’s neighbors.

The working class was sent to build mines on the grasses west of Delhi. It was said that doing so would help the tiny town produce more. Roads were nice for the people but productivity mattered a bit more to Ghandi. “They shall see,” he said “what a difference this shall make to our empire.”

A man stepped up to Ghandi. He whispered something into the old man’s ear. “We are moderately advanced, but we scientists need guidance. Please fund our efforts.” Ghandi prudently replied, “Of course, good sir, if we contaminate our knowledge with the corruption of the world, where would we be then? You shall have your money. Oh and I love those pots you brought over last time. Be sure to teach us how to make more!”

Ghandi then pressed a button that was labeled “next turn.” The Indians were on the road to greatness.

(1) Mine BG W of Delhi
(2, 3, 4) Nothing
(5) Warrior-> Warrior Warrior moves SW.
(6) Warrior moves S. Oh no, our FP wheat is surrounded by mountains! Either no river, or no wheat!!! Worker roads.
(7) Warrior moves S again and sees another mountain. :(
(8) Warrior moves E. Looks like another coast.
(9) Warrior built set to rax prebuild. Warrior in Delhi north. Warrior in mountain range E.
Oh, it’s just a lake. More lakes and a possible coast found.
(10) Borders expand. What do I see, but another FP wheat. Hopefully this one can keep a river. Also see a volcano next to it. Hmm, that could suck. A lot. Worker NE to mine and road BG. Explorations
(11) Nothing much
(12) Warrior NW of Delhi spots a landbridge.
(13) Actually, the site near the NW warrior is pretty good. Just no bonus food tiles. Warrior E of Delhi steps on Volcano. NE of Delhi is a good 20K site.
(14) Nothing much
(15) Lower science. Pottery in 1.
(16) Pottery done. I think for a while and decide that since the civs are not so aggressive, we can stick with warriors (also BW will be cheaper later on) Set research to writing. Switch Delhi to Granary in 8. We see furs. 3NE 1E of Delhi is a great site. Upon whipping the temple, we can get the volcano and the furs forest. Overlap is okay.
(17, 18, 19, 20) Nothing much. See green borders on turn 20. MM Delhi to get Granary in 2 turns at the cost of 2 food. Up lux. Worker moves to FP. Gibbon says that we are the 2nd richest civ in the world. Ghandi is not pleased. Converting the Persians may be a tough task.
(21) Contact the Aztecs. Teotihuacan is empty. Ghandi almost falls to temptation and orders the warrior to attack. But he regains control when he meditates, repeating Om over and over, happy at the fact that the granary will complete when he pushes the button.
(22) The granary finishes, set to settler in 6 and growth in 9. A warrior enters Delhi as the lux tax lowers. The warrior next to Teotihuacan sees a warrior pop up out of the town.
(23) Nothing much.
(24) Change deficit research to 90% So we keep 10 gold.
(25) Worker finishes irrigation. Growth in 4. Settler in 3. Worker roads.

The next player should settle Bombay on the red dot. Other semi good sites are the pink green, and yellow dots respectively. The stars indicate which city gets the tiles. Delhi gets 17, the minimum.

:) Did I do well? Ghandi sure is pleased.

I did some (re-) thinking and I'm very pessimistic about this game.

This is a Pangaea map (an ugly one),so every one knows each other
very soon and will start trading techs like crazy. We cannot buy or trade
techs. There are 4 Scientific civs in this game,so we will fall further and
further behind after they enter a new era.The AIs are least aggressive,
so this game will be a tech race game, although I've never played with this
setting. The AIs will outtech us and we can't do a thing about it,because
we can't start a war or stay long enough at war to get rid of the runaway
civs. Also because of the fast tech race a lot of the wonders will cascade.
So to get a total of 20k culture in one city before 2050 will take a lot of time
and long before that the game is already over either by the Space Race or
by Voting.
This happened in a few of my own 20k games where I had no choice but
to change the victory goal or the game would be lost.

My conclusion : This game is doomed.Sorry.

Oh really now. Don't be so pessimistic. I don't feel that way. The game is not lost until it is lost. But if things go bad. We can break the rules, I guess. I really hope my first SG won't be a loss. :(

We can get a six turn settler factory in Delhi. We can build Bombay start a temple and then build the MoM. After growing we can set our sights on the Hanging Gardens and with luck nab the Great Library right before building Sistine's. After a quick library, cathedral, university, and colloseum, we can build shakespeare's and newton's. Afterwards, US ToE and Hoover's won't be difficult. The optimists view may require some sacrifices, but we'll see what we can do.

The best way would be to get rid of the no tech buying/stealing. Actually, when I think about it the GL only gives you techs 1 turn after 2 or more civs know it. We COULD pretend that Ghandi and his scientists read them and formulate their own ideas of what the technologies are all about.

Just looking at your post and the first page and I had a question:

Tribute said:
We cannot buy technologies from the AI or risk their impurities

Does that mean we can build Great Library and can we steel techs? If we can do both of these I can see us winning this game.

I played a long to see if we have a change, well build
Bombay on yellow dot, missed MoM,Pyramids as result
of a wonder cascade,missed the Republic/Philosophy
slingshot.
This is totally waste of time using Bombay/yellow dot
as the 20k city.It has only 1 shielded grassland.
I've played enough 20k games to know this is a lost case.
It is also no fun to play a very passive game like this
with 99%-100% building.
So if the team wants to continue this game be free to do so,
I'm leaving this SG.

I'm definately staying. It's monarch, so we can catch up in techs. AA will be hard, but then things should go smoothly. About wonders: Build what we can. We probably won't be able to choose wonders, but I'm sure we'll manage to snatch some.
