... but it doesn't seem to be that initialization error! Fresh and exciting trouble for anyone interested.
I've gotten the game running... Twice, I think. Maybe three times. Once it started it ran slowly and choppily, but still ran (not counting the one time it froze up altogether). Before and inbetween those rare and joyous occasions, the game just will not load. And now again. Let it be said I have no idea what I actually did to get it working those three times. I didn't intentionally change anything inbetween a failed and a succesful attempt. However my error message after the Loading... screen is your usual "[Game or application] has encountered an error and has to close".
I have a laptop but it's last year's model and meant to handle games (and did run HL2 for example just fine). In short, I know my computer CAN run this game because it has. Still most the time the game just won't load. Why? Have we identified the bottleneck which has so many of us posting in this tech section yet? Is it a RAM problem, graphics problem, sound issue? Sigh. I do hope the patch will take care of this.
