(I apologize if this is the wrong place to post this)

I just downloaded BTS from Direct2Drive. I assume it's the 3.17 version. Everything works fine, until I attempt to use a mod. I can't get any of the mods to work. I chose 'load a mod' and the program begins to reboot, but then BTS stops running. Any advice? I looked around trying to figure out if Direct2Drive causes unique problems, and the only advice I really saw was to reinstall BTS. So I did, but still no luck. Thanks for any help

When exactly did BtS stop running? You can check if 3.17 is installed or not (a lot of mods require it) by going into Advanced -> About this Build .

I checked and I am running 3.17. If this helps, here's what I've done:

-I installed Civ IV vanilla yesterday and installed a v 1.61 patch.
-I downloaded BTS from Direct2Drive, which included the 3.17 patch.
-I downloaded the Rise of Mankind 2.3 mod. I extracted the RoM files to my Firaxis/Civ 4/Beyond the Sword/Mods directory.
-I then went back to the BTS main directory and clicked on "Civ4 Beyond the Sword." Civ IV BTS then loaded up.
-I went to 'advanced' and 'load mod' and selected rise of mankind.
Then BTS seemed like it was 'reloading'... but then it never completed reloading... I doubt I'm using the rights terminology here, but when I played mods in the past, I would click 'load a mod,' Genghis Kai's Giant Earth Map, for example, and after I clicked 'load the mod,' Civ IV would pause a minute, then reload and when the main screen came back up a few moments later, 'GEM' would be in the upper righthand corner... if I'm remembering that right.

Instead of that happening, after I click on 'load a mod,' Civ IV shuts down, and then...nothing happens...and I waited five minutes and tried to restart BTS, and it won't load up at all. I looked at taskmanager, and BTS is not on the list of program's running. If I restart my computer entirely, BTS will load up, but again, won't run any mods.

Thanks very much for your help.

I can't provide you much specific help, but I have a direct2drive version of BtS and I've run a number of mods with no problem. I use Wolfhanze's mod in almost every game I play and BAT in those I don't use wolf's in. Are there a number of different mods that have caused this problem?

Thanks for the response. This is where it gets even weirder (to me).

I followed advice to reinstall beyond the sword. After I installed BTS, I load things up, selected 'advanced' and loaded rise of mankind...and lo and behold, it worked! So I spent two hours having a lot of fun playing as the dutch on the americas map. Then I saved things and shut down.

I came back the next day, except to fire up the game and get back to fighting the romans...and I clicked on civ4beyondthesword execute file...and nothing happened.
It doesn't matter if I restart my computer, beyond the sword won't even load. So I'm scratching my head, trying to figure out why things would work perfectly fine for one time immediately after I reinstalled beyond the sword... but that once I had exited the game after the first time, beyond the sword won't even start up (so the problem now isn't that I can't get mods to load, it's that I can't even get the game to run). I'm really baffled. Any help appreciated.
