Try1 - The Newbies!

Finish up securing some defenses, send some musketeers up to guard athens, and then move the SoD out for WAR! (see my earlier post for more details)

All that should only take half your turnset, at most, I think.

I'm sorry, but this isn't going to work as I had planned - I simply have too much to do before I head off to work.

I'm going to need a skip (the same goes for Try2) - sorry again. I'll be back on Tuesday.

oei the game still hasnt picked up speed too bad. im back btw and can play again :).

i think the turns should be played by who ever is ready to do it now so lets post a got it sombody and go play if no one else does it i will do it in a day or so(if thats o right with u Trynthlas u got play it also ofcourse)

I'd rather wait a bit before we jump that far into a random play order, endy. We'll give it a day or two and if Koros doesn't claim it then I'm up anyway ;)

I'm back from work - I'll take it if that's ok.

Again, I'm really sorry. Been really stressed out lately at work and I ended up needing the extra rest.

Ok, I went ahead and took it to keep things rolling and to redeem myself. Here goes my report:

Turns 1-4:

I start gearing back into war-mode. Musketeers are on their way to Athens. I also get the workers off their lazy-butts and find a few tiles for them to work on - During this time I felt that going for replacements parts for lumbermills would a good idea. I switch towards that and use our great engineer that had been asleep in Paris to help us research it. Hopefully no one has any objections, but I didn't see any other suggestions on how to use him.

Also, we won the Apostolic Palace Elections during this time, but no resolutions came up during my turnset:

Spoiler :

Our stack at the end of turn 4 - ready to declare war on Sitting Bull:

Spoiler :

Turns 5-6:

At the beginning of turn 5, we finish replacement parts. I put the workers to work building lumbermills and start working on steel next for cannons.

And then our next war of conquest began:

Spoiler :

Of course, this draws Bismarck into the conflict as well. We take another "you declared war on our friend" hit from Pacal and Justinian - we've dipped down to pleased with Pacal, but Justinian is still our pal.

Snaketown is defended by a few longbowmen and macemen:

Spoiler :

Our stack makes short work of them and the following turn we take the city, our only losses being two trebuchets:

Spoiler :

Turns 7-8:

Following the loss of Snaketown, Sitting Bull is able to break away from his master Bismarck due to the loss of territory.

It was during this time that I remembered to take a look at our current civics. Slavery isn't too viable at this point in the game, so I make the switch to caste system and take the anarchy hit. Afterwards, I gear Nidaros towards more scientist specialists since it had the greatest chance to make a great scientist.

During turn 8, somehow our deals with Pericles were canceled, so I renegotiated a new deal for more happiness resources:

Spoiler :

By the end of turn 8, a small stack of Bismarck/Sitting Bull forces showed up on the borders of Snaketown, but they were ineffectual. In between turn 8 and 9 they attacked and we took no losses.

Spoiler :

Turns 9-15:

During turn 9, I had the remnants of their pitiful attacking force wiped out, and then I starting moving our SoD towards Spiro. During my turnset, musketeers have been moving from our mainland towards Athens, so I moved a portion of them to defend Snaketown while our SoD pressed the attack.

A couple of turns later, our stack arrives at Spiro:

Spoiler :

Protective longbowmen fortified on a hill are tough to take on, so we took a few more losses - 3 trebuchets and 3 macemen. But in the end, the city fell and the Native American Empire was wiped off the map:

Spoiler :

We also captured three workers during the attack.

For my last couple of turns, a great spy ended up being born in Nidaros - I'm not sure what to do with him.

Also, we finished researching steel and moved into the industrial era:

Spoiler :

Our production cities are now working on a combination of cannons and musketeers.

And here's our Eastern border at the end of the turnset:
Spoiler :

More comments to come later. Here's the save:

Let's get some feedback and next move ideas from the team, eh? I know I've kind of been coming up with 'the plan' a lot, mostly because I just post a lot and have ideas  ...but as this is a learning game, I would like to see everyone else picking up on these things besides me!!

I think we're in a pretty good position to take the game at this point. We should take the rest of the peninsula by capturing Chaco Canyon, and then move on to the rest of the Bismarck's territory until he capitulates.

After that, we should probably gauge our economy, and go after whoever is next on the chopping block (I suggest Mehmed). And also we should continue our military tech path.

Roster
-------------
Trynthlas - on deck
endymion
Carneios
Darth Meanie
Rince
Mitchifer - just played
LordKoros - up!

Will give Koros til the end of today to grab it, if not I will go ahead and play.

the game is almost in the back :) sorry that i didnt post a lot lately i just went to moachr dif and won on my first try :) im playing me second game now and that one just arrived in the middel ages and is starting to get going :)

Heh, I'll play tonight, didn't get a chance last night b/c work kept me late late - worked almost 11 hours yesterday, so my brain was fried.

Hokay, so I played about 13 turns, debating whether to continue or pass it along ;) :p

Turn 335 - 1575 AD
Here's where Mitch left off, so first things first as usual, I go hunting for better trade deals. Here's what we get:

I also yank some troops around so that I can move the stack out of Spiro sooner.

Turn 336
It was either this turn or the next, but we captured Chaco Canyon after a tough battle - Bismarck had a pretty large stack in there (around 12-15 units). I bombarded to remove the city defenses, then threw 3 trebs at the city to weaken things up - finished up after that with only a few losses.

Also killed some of Bismarck's troops floating around in Pericles' territory, just so they wouldn't cause problems later.

I let the troops that need to heal up, others I send ahead towards the next target, which is Poverty Point, sandwiched between Justinian and Mehmed's territory.

Turn 338
Settled the Great Spy in Paris, his other uses aren't that useful to us at this point.

Turn 340
Traded some tech with our vassal:
Spoiler :

Turn 343
More trades with Pericles:

...and then somewhere in here I capture Poverty Point, which had average defenses (about 4 longbows and 2-3 other units), but fell pretty easily with again, just a few losses on our side.

Turn 348
The present - we just built this:
Spoiler :
Try1-Taj.jpg

...which is my reason for stopping at this point.

The turn before, I was sending some trebs up separate from a stack (and was going to move the stack right after, on the same turn) and they ran into ANOTHER stack of Bismarck's - which I killed, but took more losses than I would have liked. Still, we have a very nice Stack-o-doom...

As you can see it has some good artillery reinforcements on the way. Our eastern portion of the empire looks like this:

And I made one last trade with Pericles, and am considering one with Pacal (but have not made it yet!):

Try1-PacalTrade5.jpg

We finished teching Rifling and I started Military Tradition, for Grenadiers - I am considering that we should make a small detour during the Golden Age to grab Constitution (only 4 turns) so we can build some jails. We are suffering some SEVERE war weariness in Athens and Nidaros (10  faces) and it isn't much better elsewhere. It may be worth calling a 10-turn peace treaty after we capture Frankfurt (and squeeze Bismarck for some techs - he has Astronomy and Constitution which we could use either or both of). Take a rest to move troops up, build some jails and reduce war weariness, then re-declare at the end of our Golden Age...

If we can get Constititution from Bismarck, we won't need to waste turns teching it - I think our move after that should be to get Sci. Method and Biology so we can grow our cities even more, as many of them are limited by food, not happy or healthy. IF the game drags on for some reason, we should look for a trade for Corporation, and try to SOMEHOW get a Great Engineer (not likely) and a Great Merchant (rather likely) to found Mining Inc and Sid's Sushi once we get their requisite techs. However, I would hope that we can get ourselves to the required domination goals before that happens.

The reason I am considering playing through the golden age myself (past the normal 15 turns) is so that whoever is next doesn't have to get stuck with only a little war action and playing builder again - they will get the save at the end of the GA, and be ready to go all-out war!

Thoughts?

things are looking good :) u can play the turns of the ga im away this evening so couldnt play anyway and i would love for some war action in my turn cause i only had build turns so far

Well time is short, busy @ work and looking like I'll be working over the weekend

Turns went very well - didn't get much from Bismarck for a peace deal, but we have some jails now and can build more so war weariness shouldn't hurt so much. I spent a lot of gold promoting our front-line troops (most of em) so they're ready to go! PS - don't forget to promote our GG unit, he's free and I haven't done it yet!

Nidaros is building the National Park wonder for the free specialists from forest preserves, which I've got the workers swarming all over building it up.

Be sure to keep pumping troops out and sending them out to the front. We should have cavalry in a turn or three here, so you can build those for faster reinforcements. As far as a war plan, I would suggest capturing cities in a row, so we don't have Bismarck trying to attack us from either side - also I would capture the ones closer to Justinian first, so our front border with Mehmed will be smaller.

Save is attached!
