TSG48 Game in Progress

Ended up with three cities on the starting continent, really regretting that I didn't go with two and build the 2nd city next to the other mountain. Settled the nice little continent to the southwest for two more, and I think that's gonna be it unless I see a spot with a mountain and a lot of jungle, and I've done a lot of exploring and haven't seen one yet.

The Great Admiral did a lot of the exploring even before I got Navigation. He scouted out a path so my first Great Prophet could go to Spain and spread Seathiopian and got some bonus science, but overall I don't think the bonus science from conversion rout is going to be all that productive.

Got beat out on wonders a couple times too, kind of devastating. Who knew out of all those AIs at least one of them would figure out that it was on an island and go for early sailing.

Well playing my first GOTM it is going relatively well I think.

- Did you do anything exciting with your UU's?
Nothing yet.
- What were your initial priorities?
I was surprised to find myself on a secluded island. My main strategy so far has been to get the Great Library (accomplished) and then get National College. Currently I am on a beeline for Education. I am pretty new to CiV so this has all been a great learning experience so far.
- What tech path did you follow?
See above
- Were there any early wars and who started them?
Hiawatha has been beating on Theodora pretty good from what I can tell.
- What Social Policies did you choose and why?
Full Liberty so far. Seemed like the best choice for Science VC.

I am pretty new to CiV so this has all been a great learning experience so far. I have 5 cities and am working on getting library in all. I settled 3 on the main island, 1 on the tiny island to the east, and 1 on the island with the cotton to the south. I'd like to settle down by Old Faithful if I can but not sure that is a good idea as I am already running into happiness issues.

I took a screenshot (crashed my game with F12!?!, thank goodness for autosave) of my cities as they stand currently. I am also recording and planning on putting this on youtube if anyone has any tips they would be greatly appreciated! I have attached the save I am on as well.

Started off great, got to sea quickly exploring, and got Great Libary and Hanging Gardens no problem. Teched Education at T97.

Then I started to move slowly on Siam, and started taking his peace deals when he was offering me cities. Rejected the first deal when it was only a size two city, but the next time when it was a size five city I decided to take it. Problem was I didn't look at city first, and only realized after I took the deal that it had no luxuries coming with it. So I've been working to recover from the happiness hit. Hopefully that wasn't too big a mistake.

I was more careful with the second peace offering of a city. It was only a size two city, but it came with Marble, which I needed.

But after I accepted the deal and puppetted the city it had a food problem and lost a citizen to starvation. Now it's down to size 1, but I can't understand why it's stagnant for growth. It look to me like it should be +2 food (working two tiles with 2 food each is 4 food, less two being eaten). but for some reason when I mouse over the food for the city it says it's only harvesting 2 food, not four. (see picture)

I don't have the same problem with the other city I accepted in a peace deal and annexed. Am I missing somethin here, or is it a bug? Any way to fix it? My workaround is to send a workboat over to the fish.

i see your happiness at 0. maybe it was at -1 when it starved? ive never had a puppet work that way but its a possible guess. also, seeing what the city's borders actually are there isnt an option for a 2nd tile with 2 food. the desert farms are only 1 food so it may not have had a chance to grow anyway. because it's a puppet you cant tell it to transfer one of the other farm tiles.

wow, i totally missed the city food part. i guess it happens with gifted cities, something i rarely get to happen. but now that i think about it, one of the few times i was gifted a city and accepted i got the same thing. judging by how long the bug has been around im guessing it is unlikely to be fixed.

that or for some strange reason the citizens of a town were so disgruntled, so angered at having been GIVEN to another civilization that they decide to kill themselves in protest is what they coded for this event, haha.:crazyeye:

I think it's actually a hunger strike. :)
BTW I've since gone on to take their capital and eliminate Siam (playing kind of a Conquest-Science game here I guess), and they are still on their hunger strike. I'm dealing with the -2 food problem in that city by sending them a workboat for the fish.
