TSG51 After Action Report

There probably has been faster AI Science wins than that. Persia in my game didn't even touch the rationalism tree nor sign any RA.

t253 science defeat to persia. tried to do occ and had a good start (education around turn 90), but as someone else noted, it turned out to be really hard without a mountain. i also messed up the sp timing and had to take two policies in commerce before rationalism due to allying/befriending 3 cultural city states through lucky quests way too early. i might replay this game and try a science or diplo vc with more cities though

T234 science defeat by Persia. Did OK for my first Deity game. Did a standard 3 city tradition opening, stole about 5-7 workers from Arabia and the Mongols and continued to grow my cities from there.
Decided not to sign any RA this game and instead throw the money at city states. Turned out to be a bad plan as by the end of the game only 5 out of the 16 cs remained :(. Most likely could have won if Persia could have waited 15 to 20 more turns.

And if you were only 15-20 turns away, impressive!

I know there are people that can handle this sorta game, but wow, it's so far above my level it's pretty sad.

had a deity ai launch at ~t220 not too long ago, shortly before the patch. it was sejong though, guess that makes a difference. although i had t200 satellites, i was two turns late =(

A crazy game in many ways. It will be hard for anyone to win this game at a later turn. I will probably post some screens and more detailed text later.

Right after my initial write up thing completely collapsed. Got Mongol and Arab double teamed and didn't stand a chance. Gave up at turn 127, guessing it would have been around turn 134 or so when I officially lost.

I just don't understand deity yet...it's so ridiculous

I have soon relised after turn 150 that I will not win Diplo, loosing my CS allies one by one to spies and endless money bags, so I turned my efforts to S.Win.
Very close call, Darius and Harun both only needed 1 more part to win.
I have played peacefully to the end, only spent my money to CIVs to attack each other and providig gifts when asked.
4 turn before the end I was sure I lost because darius only needed 1 more part, and I was thiking he is on it, so I decided to nuke his capital.
I borrowed all his money, and 2 uranium, before the DOW, and then I relised I have not built Manhattan Project ... :) Still I pressed next turn 4 times, and luckyly, I have won.
(It is more like I have escaped to the alpha centaury from 3 superpower:))

I have completed Trad and Rat.

What could have been better:
1. Should have helped sweden somehow to Pay Gingis to attack Darius. I was afraid, that he will be a superpower, as in the beginning he was taking hte lead, so i did not. Later he was weekened by Spain, but Darious captured Stokholm.
2. Could have had 2 more RA with sweden, I was afraid D. will finished them off and I spend 600g for nothing. A few cities existed until the end though.
3. Maybe if I try not finish the oracle only after I got to the Renesanse I could have finished sooner. But i was afraid to loose it, so I spent it to patro opener.

Although the starting position isn't all that juicy I settled in place (wanted to keep ocean access and be next to the river). Trying to OCC a culture Victory here... but honestly, surviving as long as possible seems the actual goal.

T26: Harun built the GL...

In between I've become Friends with Vatican City and chose the Pantheon of the Gods of Sea (+3 production later with the 3 fishing boats). Put down an academy from the Writing GS. Sold the Silk and all the Crabs to buy 2 fishing boats (one was hard built) and to buy Stoneworks.
Interestingly everyone is friendly so far to me, even got DoF with Harun and Gustavus. Lots of CS already conquered (mainly from Isabella and Gustavus (!); Genghis is innocent, really :D

T86: I've just gotten the Oracle, probably the only wonder for me without a GE in this game. Tradition was done and I opened Commerce for the 25% gold increase. Next will be Piety and then either some Liberty or Freedom as soon as it is available. Great Prophet appeared the same turn; got Cathedrals :)

At this point I have to make an important tech path decision: Either going Civil Service and maybe have a try at Alhambra and/or Sistine Chapel or go for Iron Working, Workshops and Ironworks for them hammers. Decided to do the latter. Hopefully an Iron or two pops in my city radius... can't seriously all be just grass there (edit: oh well... one Iron(2) it is)! Also going for a harbor now and spending the cash to ally with Bucharest for 22 Turns for 500 gold.

T91: Madrid already working on Alhambra, guess the Production tech path was the right choice. I'm at 24 hammers now and just started the National Epic (as it's better than the Gardens at just 1 turn more build time).

T100: First Landmark settled. Squeezed in an Temple after Piety was opened and going for the Great Temple now; just as my alliance with the Vatican ends. Isabella declared on Genghis and Gustavus has been in a clinch with Darius for a while. Harun's just sitting there and pumping out wonders ;)
He did however just settle a city 7 tiles away from Babylon. Could be bad, but maybe it also helps me as a barrier from Isabella, who swarmed the continent with 13 cities.

T101: Isabella entered Renaissance via Astronomy. Still a bit hope for the Sistine Chapel.
I have no idea what to do with my Spy. Defense is pointless, Offense is suicidal (!). So I guess trying to keep my alliance in Bucharest up with him might be the best idea (rather than trying to steal techs). Or I put him to Madrid which might allow me to share Intrigue with Harun hopefully at some point... hmm. Since Isa just dow'd Genghis it's going to rig some elections for now.

T102: Forge and Workshop bought. Still no Walls yet (feels a bit uncomfortable^^). And only 1 Spearman, 1 Bowman and 2 Scouts (one being trapped somewhere in Sweden, while the other with double vision promotions just finished exploring all of the continent, hopefully coming back home soon).

T108: Harun settled another city in only 5 tiles distance grabbing the marble which would actually have become mine sooner or later, damn. Also: Random sudden Barb Invasion pillaging Stones and Pastures -.-. Feeling like building Walls just now, before going for a National Treasury. Cathedral purchased with Faith and specialist slot filled. Friendship with Harun renewed.

T115: RA signed with Harun. Also trying to block his settler, as I hope to at least claim the Truffles, which he definitely intents to settle next to. However natural expansion will take quite a bit, especially if I can't get the forest beneath it chopped... well, maybe a Barb spawns and captures that settler - that would indeed be very helpful: For the Truffles and of course to return it later to him again.
Oh yeah... also going for the Terracotta Army which Sweden has prebuild to probably 90% for eons now. He is however currently building Himeji Castle, so I might actually get it, who knows.

LOL - AI cheating again... The settler was on the pillaged Stones last turn, that means he moved through my city tile which is something a player controlled civilian can not do (not even when borders are opened or one is allied):
Spoiler :
gIcQH.jpg

Forest chopped and the Truffles are in fact the next tile my borders will expand to (in 4 turns). Seems like the Arabian Settler decided to go elsewhere anyway. Prize Question*: Will the Barbs capture the Settler or will they attack my Spearman/go for my worker?
Spoiler :
*doesn't actually include a prize.

QirnP.jpg

Let's see if you were right with your guess:
Spoiler :
Correct! The barbs totally ignored the absolutely unprotected AI settler:

hsIwS.jpg

Plus: Terracotta Army race with Sweden was lost to... Arabia. Sure thing.

T122: Spain settled a city in 5 tiles distance to Babylon. Genghis not paying the full price for Luxuries. It's getting serious now...

T126: Ironworks done by now... but Isabelle is plotting against me. Hopefully it's only a religious thing:
Spoiler :
ZC9rv.jpg

T130: Second Landmark placed. Circus Maximus done. Religion Enhanced (Religious Art: Hermitage +8 Culture). Ready to buy an University in 3 turns. Hope Arabia converts me, so I can buy a Pagoda and then re-convert back.

T133: That was quick; Babylon is now Islamic... 11 turns until I can afford a Pagoda. Also 11 turns until Acoustics... but probably quite a while before I can pop a Great Prophet to convert back for the 3 production (sea resources) and the Hermitage bonus :(

T136: Isabella entered the Industrial Era (with Rifling).
T137: Darius entered the Industrial Era (with Industrialization).
T142: Got Coal from Genoa. Dunno what it is good for yet. (Too bad it's gonna disappear magically before I find out what I can use it for).

T143: Opera House bought; starting the Sistine Chapel (9 Turns with 4 turns GA left. Unemploying 2 farmers results in 8 turns, so I guess it will take 9 turns despite the GA ending soon). Didn't see anyone else starting it yet. Research Agreement with Arabia shaved off 4 turns of Chivalry.

T147: Isabella finally spending all her money on allying all the city states she didn't conquer before (including my former ally Bucharest) + another city planted in my face -.-

Also a Spanish Great Prophet is knocking at the door. Need to delay him for 3 Turns before I can finally buy the Pagoda (Islam) (which costs have risen when I entered a new era, forgot about that).

T151: Pagoda bought with Faith. You may come and convert me now Sis.
T152: Sistine Chapel is mine (Darius was also building it)!
T154: Stole Physics from Genghis (forgot to remove spy after no intrigue was found and then went for it...). Seems like he didn't notice. Arabia wants me to go to War with Genghis... can't he go for Isabella instead? -.-

T155: Oxford gives me Architecture, Hermitage is going down immediately (3 turns till done).
Printing Press (7) and Economics (13) to go next. 1 RA with Gustavus will be resolved soon. Think I might try to spy on Darius now, since I know he already has Industrialization (read above) so I might just be able to pick that up. PS: Babylon is now size 20.

Also Spain just asked me to go to war with her against Arabia. I liked to hear that... but didn't really want to join such a war at that point.

T159: RA resolved. 10 turns until Economics. 14 Turns until a tech might be stolen from Persia. Friendship with Harun renewed. Arabia is sending a million units to Genghis right through my borders right now. And Isabella is bringing some units to my/the Arabian borders... hopefully they'll go for him, right now - that would be perfect. I also might be able to get the Taj Mahal, as everyone seems to be busy going to war right now.

T165: Harun and Adolphus Declared on Genghis. Isabella befriended with Sweden. Expecting her to declare on Arabia any turn now:
Spoiler :
Well... hopefully it's Harun and not me :D

n7O7n.jpg

T166: Oh well...
Spoiler :
cRuea.jpg

T170: Taj Mahal is mine (lol)! It seems with Harun blocking nicely I might actually survive for a bit with the 3 bought Galleass (one more is being build)... but as soon as she gets Artillery it's over for sure!
T171: Darius entered the Modern Era (with Replaceable Parts).
T172: Darius completes the Statue of Liberty (interesting ... he's using a GE).
T173: Industrialization stolen from Darius (he didn't even notice it).
T174: Upgrading the Crossbowman to a Gatling Gun with loaned money should be helpful in the current situation (edit: actually didn't do that^^).
T175: Freedom opened.

T186: Guess I defended (45k Military Strength vs about 300k). At least this wave. No clean peace possible yet. Time to get back my religion and repair my turf:
Spoiler :
And oh... still a crossbowman, decided to not upgrade it due to the range and it worked out.

xlRmL.jpg

T187: With my religion back I'm now at 182 Culture per Turn (oh. ow. oww...).

T190: Made peace with Spain for 124g. She has Great War Infantry and more importantly Bombers now, which would have killed all my attempts at repairing all my tile improvements easily. Also gives me time to grab the coal and get a fax asap.

T194: Scientific Theory stolen from Persepolis (not detected).
T200: Peace Treaty expired. Karakorum has fallen to Persia (or combined attacks from like everybody except me). Genghis' military strength however fell below mine (7 military units!). Coal Mine ready, sold him the remaining 2... I feel like I'm gonna get them back very soon.

T205: Electricity stolen from Pasargadae (was asked to stop, lied :p) He asked for war against Sweden, so he probably will declare on him within 10 turns and my spies steals tech in 11 turns... may be helpful as I guess even the AI wants to avoid several wars at the same time.
T206: Goodbye Genghis. Hydro Plant bought from traded Aluminium. Factory finishes in 4 turns.

T208: Darius finished Christo Redentor. Need 2 more policies to Finish Freedom... at 14 turns per policy. Doesn't look like I will win, even if do not get eliminated.

T209: Agent discovered that a Spanish army is marching towards Babylon to launch a surprise attack. TT
Surprisingly I apparently got Haruns support:
Spoiler :
Mvq2J.jpg

T210: Darius has entered the Atomic Age (with Radar).
T211: First Spanish units in vision... still Cannons (for now). Next turn I'll have 2 Gatling Guns, 4 Galleass and 1 range three Frigatte. Arsenal will take another 3 turns. Not sure if that can do much against Bombers.

T211: War declared by Isabella (and I was worried Harun will force me to declare on her, ha!). 1 Galleass has already fallen to a submarine :o

T212: My Frigatte shot at the submarine, it sunk. Then I realized an embarked settler was sunk instead. Awesome. Not. The remaining Galleass' hardly damaged the submarine... it will pick out one of my ships every turn -.-

T214: My Navy is gone (except the lone Frigatte which is sitting in Babylon now).
T215: Gustavus has completed the Manhattan Project. City bombardment and Gatling Guns aren't doing much against the Great War Infantry. First Spanish Artillery pieces are arriving...
T217: Radio stolen from Persepolis.

T218: Looks grim...
Spoiler :
rOm56.jpg

T219: Harun joins the fight... right about in time. I might actually survive again. Maybe.
Darius completed the Apollo Project. I also have just gotten into a Golden Age. And I needed to burn a Great Artist as he'd get destroyed otherwise, 18 turns of Golden Age. Moreover the next turn I'll pop both, a GE and a GS. GS is obviously going to be burned, not sure about the GE. The problem is I can't keep the Admiral and the Engineer safe inside the city.

T220: Harun didn't bring any units. Babylon will fall this turn. The GE tried to escape, but he will be sunk by a submarine or some artillery shells. Everything is lost - truly a Golden Age for our civilization:
Spoiler :

M0tF1.jpg

T221: I am dead. But... what is this?
Spoiler :
I'M ALIVE!!!

Kinda.

eUgFY.jpg

T224: Akkad doing fine really. Islam immediately swapped over, so I bought a Pagoda. And also a Workshop as well as a Granary. An Aqueduct and a Monument came for free. Lighthouse is finishing soon. Also bought a Great Prophet and will convert to my religion again - just so I can buy a Cathedral! And look at the Great Engineer! He actually escaped! However I guess I will find out if he will be disbanded next turn due to low money even though I got 8 units for free maintenance (policy).

T228: Just hanging in there.
rWTAR.jpg

T234: New SP: Merchant Navy +3 production in coastal cities. Oh Yeah!

T236: Darius has completed SS Booster (1). My Golden Age ends the next turn.
Only 11 Social Policies to go! At 25 CPT I'll acquire a policy every ~130 turns!

T237: Darius has completed SS Booster (2).
T241: Darius has completed SS Booster (3).
T244: Darius has completed SS Cockpit and he is threatening me with nuclear weapons.
T248: Isabella has completed SS Booster (1).
T249: Darius has completed SS Stasis Chamber.
T251: Isabella has completed SS Stasis Chamber.

T252: Darius has completed SS Engine and therefore wins a Science Victory. I survived :mischief:. Babylon was taken (by Isabella on turn 220).

:crazyeye:

Arilian's game is another good example to not go OCC here...nice science victory :goodjob:

Feiling : You raised the bar very high...too high...:crazyeye:

T101: Isabella entered Renaissance via Astronomy.

T136: Isabella entered the Industrial Era (with Rifling).

T137: Darius entered the Industrial Era (with Industrialization).

Fun write up to read! This may be a totally noob question, but how can you tell what tech they Era-up with?

"T209: Agent discovered that a Spanish army is marching towards Babylon to launch a surprise attack. TT

Never seen this before :) (I mean that the AI needs 10 turn, they either agree or refuse for me)

Hi, I am an diety player from Sweden. I am new to the forums.

After the patch, Gods&Kings is the best game ever made, I cannot love it more.

And this map was super fun! So perfect. You start in the middle with crazy strong neighbours. And Mongolia wipes out a lot of the city states etc.

I aimed for a domination win, and got it at turn 277 finally.

I can explain how I did it. What is the best way to post pictures of the game in these forums?

Thanks,
Peter

The tech becomes cheaper for you.

(you'll see for e.g. 5 techs from that era (taking these turns): 22-22-22-21-22).
(note that techs become only cheaper if you have met the civilization(s) who discovered it)

Hi, welcome to the civfanatics forums.

In the reply to thread page there is an ''insert image'' icon that you can use. Preferably with the spoiler tag. So you click on ''SPOIL'' to wrap your image in it. An url image can be got from sites like photobucket or imageshack for example.

And of course you must explain how you did it :)

You can just cycle him for the capitals, and see what are they do - also you can share intrige, getting good points for diplo.
