Turnchat Summary Thread

A mixed bag this time, good progress on research and we captured Tsingtao and Shanghai from the French, but our deals did not go as planned and we are short on forces and are in danger of losing both Tsingtao, Shanghai and our Army!

Turn 0 – 500 AD

With no instructions for either province, the queues from last time are maintained. No instructions from Trade either, and the poll for the Gunpowder trade was tied. The minister had not voted, but had indicated the he would do the trade. Doing the trade now also allowed alliances to be made that would expire at the same time as the trade, allowing us declare war on Persia immediately they all expired – if that’s what we wanted to do. It was possible to include the alliances against Spain, France and Byz in the Gunpowder trade at no extra cost, but the alliances on their own cost over 400 gold. The theory was to make the alliances first, paying for them so that if the alliance was broken by Persia they would still keep paying the gold on the trade, the gold we paid would then be recovered in the Gunpowder trade. At least that was the theory.

Then go to do the Gunpowder trade.

Yikes! Only 19gpt now? They must have been trading with one of the Civs they declared on as a result of the alliances. Not good, but possibly a blessing in disguise as if we had done the alliances in with the deal they would not have been able to pay once they declared war, and the usual AI reaction to not being able to pay is to declare war. This would lose us not only this deal but the 56gpt we’re getting on the previous one! We accept what we can get, then form more alliances.

Edward heads for Classicity and the preturn ends with 974 gold, +29gpt, 0.10.0, Chemistry in 8.

IBT: The Dutch want us to move (we will, be patient) and our palace gets 3 new bits! If I’d know we’d get 3 bits it could have had some wings!

Turn 1 – 510 AD

I had missed the Maya alliance last turn (sorry Bertie), we do it now and get a slightly better deal than we would have then.

Tuttut is founded in the desert and we have a peep across to the French border by Tsingtao with a Knight

We end the turn with 1025 gold, +36 gpt, 0.10.0, Chemistry in 7.

IBT: A Spanish Archer appears NW of Blacktopia and a Galley NWish of Rivendell.

Turn 2 – 520 AD

We build our Army, but our Knights are at the front so Edward will have to go there for his troops. We dispose of the Spanish Archer with an Elite horse, but no Leader. Our home defence force rushes towards Rivendell to direct the landing. A Temple is rushed in Blacktopia for 168 gold to keep the Spanish further away, and Bellopolis is founded on the edge of the Jungle near Naples.

We end the turn with 893 gold, +38 gpt, 0.10.0, Chemistry in 6.

IBT:

Turn 3 – 530 AD

We Found Ratopia to replace Bengal and Liveratica to replace Avignon, settling on the Jungle rather than wasting the Bananas

We end the turn with 931 gold, +43gpt, 0.10.0, Chemistry in 5.

IBT: The Spanish land a Medieval Infantry by Rivendell and another MI approaches Liveratica. 2 Byzantine Dromons appear near ex Bengal and a Dutch Spear intrudes by Blacktopia. Then some good news…

Turn 4 – 540 AD

The reduction in corruption throughout our empire has dropped noticeably – Chemistry has dropped a turn!

We block a Spanish Spear from pillaging our Dyes and defeat the MI by Rivendell.

We end the turn with 974 gold, +39gpt, 0.10.0, Chemistry in 3.

IBT: The Spanish by Liveratica go away, the Dromons continue around, the Dutch Spear continues S, but the Archer leaves.

Continued in next post....

Turn 5 – 550 AD

We deal with the Spear near our dyes, upgrade our hero Steven’s Swordsman and follow the Dromons round our coast. Our forces move on Tsingtao…

We end the turn with 983 gold, +76gpt, 1.9.0, Chemistry in 2.

IBT:

Turn 6 – 560 AD

We attack Tsingtao. Our Army defeats first one (one of the Knights is promoted) then a second regular Spear, and an Elite Horse defeats the final Archer to Capture the city. The 2 Chinese citizens welcome us in. The Portuguese have captured Canton.

We end the turn with 1060 gold, +115gpt, 2.8.0, Chemistry in 1.

IBT: The French Workers run into Shanghai, A Spanish Med Inf and Archer approach Liveratica and the Dromons continue round our coast.

Turn 7 – 570 AD

We attack Shanghai and the city falls as easily as Tsingtao, two Spears to our Army and a final Archer to an Elite Horse. The two Chinese citizen welcome us happily, and the rest of our nation rejoices as that Tsingtao silks are now connected to the rest of our nation through Chinese territory. The bad news it that there is a French Crusader 2E of Shanghai. Our Knights deal with the remaining French troops around Shanghai.

We deal with the Spanish near Liveratica. and the turn ends with 1175 gold, +33gpt, 0.10.0, Metallury in 6

IBT: The French and Portuguese move in towards Shanghai, 2 Crusaders along with other troops are directly E of the city.

Continued in next post....

Turn 8 – 580 AD

We take out one of the Crusaders with a Knight but that is all we can do, our troops will have to heal under our 10/13 Army.

More Spanish to deal with near Naples and we found PDX near Naples.

NB: I forgot to rename Tsingtao and Naples. Tsingtao should have been named PDX, Shanghai should have been Bloomington and the new city Paradiss (not PDX)

We complete the road across the mountains and connecting the gems in the process – we now have 6 luxuries!

We end the turn with 1088 gold, 38 gpt, 0.10.0, Metallurgy in 5.

IBT: The French attack! One single Crusader single handedly takes our Army down to 2/13! The Archers and Longbows kill one of our Knights and redline another before pillaging. An Portuguese Ancient Cavalry comes out of the fog through what appeared to be unroaded jungle to capture the French Workers we had got from Shanghai.

Turn 9 – 590 AD

We attack the French Archers with the Elite Horse, winning and upgrading the Horse to a Knight to heal it. But we’re in trouble. We can’t get in reinforcements for another turn, and with both the Portuguese and the French, we’re likely to lose our Army, Shanghai and Tsingtao.

Time to stop and think. We end the session with 1008 gold, 42gpt, 0.10.0, Metallury in 4.

The Peace with Portugal went as planned and saved Shanghai, we captured Nanking and razed Murcia. We discovered Metallurgy and Military Tradition and Astronomy is available for trade.

Turn 0 – 590 AD

Rename the cities I misnamed/missed last time (PDX->Paradis, Tsingtao>PDX, Shanghai>Bloomington) then time to solve our little problem in the former Chinese lands we captured from the French.

We move our Army to Safety, and the PDX (Tsingtao) Horse to Bloomington, but it can’t attack the Archers – the Ancient Cavalry are blocking the roads. We start moving up reinforcements and prepare to weather the IBT.

The preturn ends with 1073 gold, +42gpt, 0.10.0, Metallurgy in 4.

IBT: I try to catch the action as the Portuguese and French fight it out, but am too slow with the Print Scrn button and only get the end result.

Turn 1 – 600 AD

The Dromons have continued round our coast, our Knight follows… We keep a Watchful eye on an Indian Galley in the North – heading for Rivendell?

We found a new city, upgrade a Horseman and our fast reinforcements reach the front, but it’s a waiting game this turn, our Army has to heal.

We end the turn with 985 gold, +67 gpt, 1.9.0, Metallurgy in 3.

IBT:

The Portuguese look like they’re attacking a city E of the Bananas in French territory by Bloomington – it must be Nanking. It must have been full of troops as the Portuguese keep attacking and apart from losing a Sword to a French longbow appear to keep winning – we shall have to move quickly or lose the city to the Portuguese.

Continued in next post....

Turn 2 – 610 AD

We follow the Dromons, then move the healed Army and 2 Knights in towards Nanking.

We end the turn with 985 gold, +65 gpt, 1.9.0, Metallurgy in 2.

IBT: The Spanish want to talk, but we have cities to capture…

And in a rare action shot, the Portuguese dispose of the French for us…

Continued in next post....

Turn 3 – 620 AD

We attack Nanking – that’s a tough Spear, our Army is 7/13 before it finally overwhelms the Spear and takes the city. We need to keep the invaders further away from these cities, so a Temple is rushed in PDX, with the intention (not carried through) of rushing the other 2 cities later in the session.

Our Knight waits by donsignia for the Dromons to round the point by No_Where and we end the turn with 901 gold, +110 gpt, 2.8.0, Metallurgy in 1.

IBT:

Turn 4 – 630 AD

Our Persian deal for 50 odd gpt has now ended and we are at –40gpt with 100% Science for Military Tradition in 6. We’ll still be able to afford the upgrades but can drop the slider to 90% and still get Military Tradition in 6 turns. Our Army must heal, everything must stay put, even our Knight watching the Dromons now by donsignia.

We end the turn with 1006 gold, -2gpt, 1.9.0, Military Tradition in 6.

IBT:

Continued in next post....

Turn 7 – 660 AD

An Elite Sword defeats the Archer by Liveratica, a Knight defeats the Med Inf by PDX/Bloomington and another Knight is promoted to Elite defeating the MI by Mercia. Reinforcements join this intrepid Knight – we go for Mercia next turn.

Of course we don’t forget the Dromons before we end the turn on 992 gold, -11gpt, 1.9.0, Military Tradition in 3

IBT: Our final dealing with Tokagawa (although we did not know this at the time), and this time the Spanish send a Knight…

Continued in next post....

Turn 8 – 670 AD

We take back the captured Worker by PDX.

Then Murcia gets it; our Army defeating a Pike, and an Elite Knight taking on a Spearman.

Our Settler is at the spot in the Marsh so…

and of course we follow the Dromons before we end the turn with 963 gold, 35 gpt, 2.8.0, Military Tradition in 2.

IBT: We lose that Worker yet again and Goodbye Tokagawa. Other events cause our Foreign Advisor to show his full range of expressions!
