It's probably a sign of how little I like this game that this irritates me.. but after being a civ geek since the first Im not about to give up on it this easily.. another week or two of trying to play a game and THEN I'll give up on it..

One of the stupid, small things that are like nails on a chalkboard to me right now is how each time I start a new turn.. and in small world, single player games, thats every 20-30 seconds or so.. I get that big banner fading in and out across the middle of the screen...

"Lord Hiawatha of the Iroquois - 440BC"

Like what.. Ive forgotten who I am in the last 20 seconds? .. or I can't just look in the top corner to see what year it is?

I wasnt able to find anything in the sparse options menus to turn that off.. anyone seen/heard of anything I can edit in the xml's?

thanks..

cakeman..

Bugs me too.

I'm pretty sure this is controlled in a lua file. I'm gonna go poke around.

I agree. And comparably annoying, the year 0 AD is back. Apparently, these guys don't learn from past mistakes.

Is this every turn for you? I only get it every once and a while. It doesn't bother me, but I guess it would if it was every turn.

I hate that thing since I first saw it in 2KGreg's livestream. There's no option to remove it, unfortunately.

I get it like once a hundred turns? Also there is something wrong with your computer if it is taking you 30secs to compute a turn on small maps.

My computer is way below minimum specs (so much so that I can only play in strategic view without crashes) and it turns processing never takes over 3-4 secs on small maps, even at the very end.

yeah you seem to get it when you idle a bit after turn completion. i dont get it every turn, but its a hindrance at times

What exactly is its purpose? I've been meaning to ask this on these boards but forgot. It IS rather annoying.

May be it's for the newbies. Who, I have no doubt in my mind, are considered dumb by the developers.

Just a guess here, but does it reflect an autosave? If so, you could change at least the frequency of it popping up fairly easily.

+1

It is annoying as sin. I also would like the option to turn it off along with the EULA click pop up.

Rat

Could be. But if that info is not part of the default save name, why would it be the name of the autosave?

After a while I didn't see the banner.

But 0 AD irritates me for a different reason. It shows the developers are still in the stone age with regard year numbering. BC and AD are specific to the culture of a single religion, a religion that is not followed by more than half the world. So why did they not make the change to the internationally accepted BCE and CE (Before Common Era and Common Era)? :spank:

In a game that emphasizes, among other things, social policies and culture, I'd say that was a serious cultural faux pas. Minus several thousand culture points for BC/AD, and minus a few beakers for the zero. :nono:
