Turnplay Log

Good Job! I'll cry 'Havoc,' someone else will have to let slip the dogs...

:clap: Well done, Conroe... those poor workers may not be able to sit down for a week, but that doesn't matter, 'cause we need them in the fields anyway.

Turn 173 - 1130AD

D +1 Day

*****************************

It seems the most important development has nothing to do with our war. :trouble:

mtdg1130adpeacefv1.jpg

Loco and Innovia have made peace. After reading Whomp's IM chat, I find myself wondering if Aloha brokered a deal.

*****************************

As for our war, there are no battles this turn. Our troops on Aloha soil reboard their respective ships. Our armada comprising the main assault force heads up the Aloha coast line.

mtdg1130adalohawestlr3.jpg

4 Galleons loaded with 4 Cavalry (1 wounded), 1 Maceman, and 7 Catapults will be visible to Aloha. It shouldn't be too hard for them to figure out that we are heading for their capital.

*****************************

There has been a slight change to the battle plan that we discussed. We are supposed to simultaneously hit Allegra and their capital next turn.

There is no way to conceal our forces heading towards their capital. But our ship that was to assault Allegra would be a surprise assault. They wouldn't know what hit them.

Killercane does not think Allegra is worth the risk of losing a Cavalry. So instead, I decided to move our Galleon up to where it is 1 tile off the coast of Allegra.

mtdg1130adalohaeasthw8.jpg

Aloha knows our main assault force is sailing up their west coast. But now they are going to see a Galleon of cavs sailing up the east coast, as well.

I'm rather hoping that they get to thinking that our military is much bigger that what it actually is. No reason for them to know that all six cav's that they can see are the only six that we have. :scared: Of course the whole thing could backfire if it causes them to whip a bit more than they normally would.

*****************************

Speaking of :whipped: ...

The numbers thread contains a couple more graphs this time. The usual power graph (it went up) is still there. But I've also included the production and food graphs. Both are down. :hmm: If production were up and food down, I'd say they are working some extra mines. But if both are down, my presumption is that they are laying on the whip.

Which would make sense. Unfortunately, only about half of Aloha's citys are on our map. But of the ones we do know about, only their capital went down in population. And only by 1 pop. My guess is we will see at least 1 Cossack when we hit the capital next turn. And hopefully it will only be one.

*****************************

One last photo ...

mtdg1130adbrilliantbe3.jpg

My guess is they plan on pillaging the fish next turn. We'll have to see about that ...

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes. The city will produce a Cavalry next turn.

Hamburger -> I leave the city MM'ed for max cash for one more turn. Another Cavalry will also be produced next turn.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes.

Brilliant -> The Galleon gets :whipped:. I'd had hoped to wait a couple of turns. But instead, Aloha's Galley needs a whacking. It costs 2 pop and we have 39 turns of whip anger.

Twaddle -> A Catapult is produced and another one is started. It will be whipped in a couple of turns after the city has grown a bit more. The city currently has 25 turns of whip anger.

Leonidas -> No changes.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. Aloha's Workers arrive and will be used to bring the Ivory on-line.

Phooey -> No changes.

Zapotec -> No changes.

*****************************

Do ya'll realize that in all of page 23, there is only one turn report? :huh:

Turn 174 - 1140AD

D +2 Day

*****************************

First order of business is to have a look at Aloha's use of the :whipped:. Their capital got whipped for 2 pop. Since their capital was whipped last turn, as well, this tells us that they can whip Cossacks from scratch at a cost of 2 pop. They will be able to do this for the next 4 turns (4 more Cossacks), before they will need to slow down to every other turn.

The city of Hej was also whipped this past turn for 1 pop. The cities of Privet and Ciao were not whipped, unless they grew the pop back already (possible).

mtdg1140adwhipshotgh9.jpg

*****************************

I move our forces into Pearl Harbor. As discussed in the other thread, we are unable to assault their capital. So we do the next best thing, which is to blockade the city.

mtdg1140adwestfi8.jpg

Our forces will be vulnerable to a lucky RNG roll by their suicide Galleys. They already suicided one on our stack this past turn. Our boats may need to withdraw to heal if it gets too bad.

mtdg1140adeastje2.jpg

Meanwhile on the other side of the continent, our lone boat takes up a position east of Ciao. It is outside of Aloha's line of sight. Unfortunately, Epsilon can see it.

*****************************

Aloha's Galley seems intent on doing some pillaging. It is sunk with only slight damage.

mtdg1140adnopillageer0.jpg

Also notice Epsilon's Cavalry just outside of our border.

*****************************

Research is turned back on. After spending 110 gold to upgrade our last Galley, we have 79 gold saved up. At 50% research we are burning -13gpt.

Replaceable Parts is due in 18 turns.

*****************************
Balderdash -> Cavalry completed and another one started.

Hamburger -> Cavalry completed and another one started. The city is MM'ed for 2-turn cavs.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes.

Brilliant -> The whipped Galleon sinks Aloha's annoying Galley. The city resumes Catapult construction. The city currently has 38 turns of whip anger.

Twaddle -> No changes. The city currently has 24 turns of whip anger.

Leonidas -> The city completes a Catapult and starts another. The city is MM'ed for 4-turn Catapults.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes.

Phooey -> No changes.

Zapotec -> No changes.

*****************************

Innovia does a civics swap this past turn. They are giving up Theocracy in favor of Org Religion and Vassalage in favor of Nationhood.

Doesn't appear that any tech trading took place this past turn. I notice that Loco is sitting on 125 gold. They are the only team lacking Optics; do we want to make them a sweet deal?

They are giving up Theocracy in favor of Org Religion and Vassalage in favor of Nationhood.
Sounds like a Theater building operation to me.

I'll be headed out of town on Saturday.. .I found out tonight that my grandma has pneumonia. She's had Alzheimer's from ~ 10 years. There's a natural progression with this disease and you body eventually "forgets" to perform vital functions like eating breathing and other.

Anyway, my Grandma went to the emergency room last night for the pneumonia. They got a cup of fluid out of her lungs. She had a feeding tube, but now they've taken that out and aren't going to be putting it back in. So I'll likely not be around much if at all for the next few days as we're leaving on Saturday morning and we're not sure when we're coming back home. My dad has internet access and I might be on occassionally but it won't be as much as I normally am for sure.

Terribly sorry to hear that, Tubby. :( The comfort of family is the most important thing at times like this. Best wishes, mate.

Turn 175 - 1150AD

D +3 Day

*****************************

We are greeted by a trade screen from Epsilon. They come bearing gifts!

MTDG_1150AD_EpsilonTrade.jpg

They also delivered the first Cavalry this turn.

*****************************

Next up is to review Aloha's use of the whip. They whipped another Cossack for 2 pop in their capital. And it appears that may have been the only city whipped. I note that their score has only dropped 7 points, which would correspond to the loss of 2 pop.

mtdg1150adwhipshotkt6.jpg

However, at size 7, their capital will still have no problem :whipped: a Cossack every turn for the next 3 turns. After that, they will have to slow down to one every other turn. Since this city contains their Globe Theatre, it still means that they can whip faster than we can ship.

*****************************

I snap a photo of their capital before moving our boats. Notice that another Cossack has appeared in the city.

mtdg1150adalohair3.jpg

Next up is to have a peek at Hej. And frankly, I'm floored by what I see here. Six units! :eek: I'm absolutely flabbergasted that these folks are able to stay one step ahead of us every step of the way! :shake:

mtdg1150adhejkr1.jpg

Unfortunately, this war is about to be over. Especially if we don't put a dent in their production capabilities. I decide to risk our forces on an assault on the city. What's the difference if we are eliminated this turn or 10 turns from now.

Spoiler :
What a Rush!
mtdg1150adhejgoldzo6.jpg

That was an "on-the-edge-of-your-seat" intense battle. Amazingly, we did not lose a single cav. Not one! :nope: Unfortunately, we did lose 5 of our 7 Catapults. I would have thought at least maybe 1 or 2 of our suicide cats would have withdrawn. But no. Lost them all.

mtdg1150adupdatecq9.jpg

Before this, we didn't have enough cavs to assault their capital. Now we don't have enough cats, either. In fact, we've got 2 empty boats. We've got 4 cav's and 2 cat's currently destined for Pearl Harbor. But, I think we are going to need to lay our hands on some more cats here pretty quick.
*****************************

After our victory in Hej, I decided against attacking Ciao. I went ahead and moved our Galleon further north, staying out of their line of sight.

mtdg1150adciaoeb4.jpg

My thinking is that I don't want them suspecting that we might be heading towards Privet. Especially with their uncanny ability to predict our every move. I want all of those Cossacks to stay right there in their capital instead of fanning out to protect their key assets.

mtdg1150adallegraxs7.jpg

It should also be noted in the above screenshot that Allegra has received a border pop. Aloha can now reach us via Galley.

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes.

Hamburger -> No changes.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes.

Brilliant -> We find ourselves in need of Catapults. This one gets :whipped: for 1 pop. The city has +5 whip anger and 47 turns to work it off.

Twaddle -> We find ourselves in need of Catapults. This one gets :whipped: for 1 pop. The city has +4 whip anger and 33 turns to work it off.

Leonidas -> No changes. But, a couple of Workers show up to begin laying down some workshops.

Chappaquiddick -> Aloha's Workers have camped the ivory. So, move a citizen to pick up the hammers.

Phooey -> The city has finally gotten a border pop, just in time as 2 Workers show up to begin farming. But first, a pre-chopped forest is brought down to rush a Catapult.

Zapotec -> No changes.

*****************************

Unfortunately, there are a couple of things that I forgot to do. :blush: :blush: Between Epsilon's GM and razing Hej, we've got 1000 gold in the bank. I meant to dial up the research slider by a notch or two, as well as spending some of that gold on upgrading our last Chariot. Unfortunately, neither happened.

I should also note that, after pressing enter to end the turn, we got hit by war weariness. Our 3 big production cities have all been hit. Hamburger is unaffected, as it had a spare happy face to begin with. Fortunately, our ivory will be online next turn.

How about that, I am surprised you attacked. I would have ran away! I would like to know what they will give for peace now.

A fine result! :thumbsup: What's next?

2 galleons at the point where Aloha could slide galleys thru would sink anythig they could come up with at short notice, if we don't need them for ferrying, that is.

Wow. That is very suprising to me as well. Fine execution Conroe!

How about that, I am surprised you attacked. I would have ran away!
Yeah, I know what you mean. But I just felt that we really had nothing to lose. Time is not on our side during this war. Every turn we wait, they just get stronger. If we don't put a dent in their production capacity, this war is lost anyway.

Turn 176 - 1160AD

5th Turn of the Aloha War

*****************************

As noted at the end of the previous turn report, we are now being hit by war weariness. And after only 4 turns of the war. :shake: First thing to do is to build a road that brings ivory online. After this, we will need to start using the culture slider.

*****************************

Next, a review Aloha's use of the whip. They whipped another Cossack for 2 pop in their capital. I figure they have 2 more Cossacks that can be whipped before they have to slow down to a Cossack every other turn.

mtdg1160adwhipshoteh8.jpg

I also noted that their score was 1005 at the end of the previous turn, after losing the city of Hej. Since their score has now increased by 7 points, we can deduce that Aloha has grown by 4 pop in their cities under the fog. This begs the question are we in for another round of across-the-board whipping?

*****************************

Aloha was unable to whack our lone and defenseless Catapult. It gets loaded back aboard ship and the fleet will set sail. I will try and park the fleet out of range of that Galley while the troops heal. I'd rather not give Aloha a chance at a lucky RNG roll.

mtdg1160adalohast3.jpg

Note in the screenshot of Aloha's capital that they have whipped another Cossack. I also see they have brought in a CG2 Longbowman from somewhere. It should also be noted that they felt confident enough to pull a Cossack out of the city. Notice he is heading towards our lone Catapult.

Will they feel so confident once they start seeing reinforcements arrive? We have two Galleons each loaded with 2 Cavalary and a Catapult. The first one will be visible to them this turn. The next will be visible next turn.

mtdg1160admoretroopsne4.jpg

In the meantime, all of our units should be fully healed within 4 turns. Three of our Cavalry are eligible for promotions. I give one a Medic promotion. The other two got Amphibous promotions. I don't normally give out amphib promotions since they become useless after the troops have landed. But in this case, it is a [badly needed] 50% bonus and these boys are probably going to die on the beaches anyway.

*****************************

As noted last turn, we've got over a grand in the bank. I decided to hold off upgrading our last Chariot after reading Epsilon's proposal. I do, however, bump the research slider up to 90%. We are now showing that Replaceable Parts will be completed in 9 turns. We are draining the treasury at -98gpt.

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes.

Hamburger -> No changes.

Treacle Cottage -> A citizen is moved from a forest to a Cottage without impacting production.

Brilliant -> The city begins construction of a new Catapult. The city has +5 whip anger and 46 turns to work it off.

Twaddle -> The city begins construction of a new Catapult. The city has +4 whip anger and 32 turns to work it off.

Leonidas -> No changes.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes.

Phooey -> The city begins construction of a new Catapult with all of those overflow hammers.

Zapotec -> No changes.

*****************************

Last but not least, I send a trade request to Epsilon to exchange maps.

Well if we dont do anything right now its all good. Aloha cant research worth anything with a size 5 capital. If we take out their shipping capability they are kind of dead in the water, especially when we get rifles. We might even start looking towards improving the economy a bit.

Turn 177 - 1170AD

6th Turn of the Aloha War

No change in war weariness. (+1:mad: in cities > 10 pop)

*****************************

I can see no visible indication that Aloha has whipped anythng this past turn. From the increase in their score, it appears that they have grown an additional 2 pop in their cities. One of those cities was their capital.

mtdg1170adwhipshotot4.jpg

I'm rather surprised by this. I would have expected them to whip 2 more Cossacks before they let up on the whip. Especially since our reinforcements were visible this past turn.

My only explanation is that I could be wrong about them whipping Cossacks for 2 pop. It could be that they have been whipping for 3 pop all along, and just regrowing 1 pop on the IBT. :dunno: Be interesting to see if they whip this next turn.

*****************************

Our boats have a lot of empty seats after the Battle of Hej. I'm going to dispatch a couple of boats back to Twaddle for more troops. And in the meantime, another one of the boats is going to get a look at Aloha's capital.

mtdg1170adalohaxg5.jpg

Their capital looks about the same as it did last turn. Interestingly enough, they did not bring back that Cossack.

*****************************

Balderdash -> We've got some overflow to play with, so I move a citizen around to extract a couple of extra beakers.

Hamburger -> No changes.

Treacle Cottage -> A couple more citizens are moved around to generate a few more beakers.

Brilliant -> No changes. The city has +5 whip anger and 45 turns to work it off.

Twaddle -> No changes. The city has +4 whip anger and 31 turns to work it off.

Leonidas -> Our Workers complete a workshop, allowing a couple of citizens to work some beakers.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. Our Workers are chopping the jungle around the elephants for the extra food.

Phooey -> No changes.

Zapotec -> No changes.

*****************************

A Great Prophet has been born in Innovia this past turn.

so with our reinforcements... will we be able to assault anywhere else or are we pretty much doomed no matter what?

so with our reinforcements... will we be able to assault anywhere else or are we pretty much doomed no matter what?
Honestly, I think we are just playing a game of chicken. Whoever blinks first, loses! Hopefully fielding some pikes will make them blink.

Turn 178 - 1180AD

7th Turn of the Aloha War

No change in war weariness. (+1:mad: in cities > 10 pop)

*****************************

Epsilon sends over the iron, per our agreement. They also include a surprise gift to help us with the war weariness.

MTDG_1180AD_EpsilonTrade.jpg

They also delivered two more Cavalry this turn, as well as a Galleon. They have one more Cavalry remaining to deliver. I also told them that we would return the Galleon when we were through with it.

*****************************

It seems the scientists in Loco land have been busy this past turn. But, not anywhere near as busy as the Innovian scientists.

This past turn, Loco has acquired knowledge of Printing Press. Meanwhile, Innovia has learned both Military Tradition and Astronomy in the same turn. Only ways (that I know of) to get two techs in one turn is through the light bulb or through trading. My bet is on trading. MT and Astronomy cost the exact same number of beakers. Aloha sends MT this turn, they get Astronomy next turn. Or at least that is my guess.

*****************************

The only visible indication of Aloha's use of the whip is in their capital. It has dropped by one pop. My guess is they whipped another Cossack and grew one pop back on the IBT.

mtdg1180adwhipshotpl6.jpg

*****************************

Sure enough, there is another Cossack in Aloha's capital. Nothing we can do about that at the moment.

mtdg1180adalohafd4.jpg

But with Aloha about to have access to Galleon upgrades, I decide to go ahead and whack their Galley. It is easier to kill it now rather than after the upgrade.

*****************************

Balderdash -> The city begins a Pikeman. The citizens are MM'ed for hammers.

Hamburger -> The city begins training 1-turn Pikemen.

Treacle Cottage -> The city begins a Pikeman. The citizens are MM'ed for hammers.

Brilliant -> No changes. The city has +5 whip anger and 44 turns to work it off.

Twaddle -> No changes. The city has +3 whip anger and 30 turns to work it off.

Leonidas -> The city begins construction of another Catapult. Meanwhile, the citizens are reworked to emphasize hammers.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes.

Phooey -> No changes.

Zapotec -> No changes.

I was about to ask why haven't we killed that galley yet.. good job
