How long will the term length be?

And

Why no party system? (I'm sure there's a good reason for this, but I can't think of one)

Parties were going to be introduced latter but it never really happened because we had so few members. We don't have political parties at the start because we wouldn't have them in the particular time period. I'm sure it was something like this.

I guess a term will last a month although it can be shorter if the pres resigns or disappears and there is a need for a new election.

I think terms are one month (constitution).

I presume parties do not exist because there are not "true" liberal/conservative labor/management social/gov't divisions among people. Basically, if there is a question, like Gov't switch, attacking an enemy or remaining isolationist, etc. the people can simply give their input directly. Or a poll can be issued, or discussion thread opened. Plus you have advisors, governors, etc. Parties would probably add additional non-game overhead to the system, but then again... this is a deomcracy, and things can chage ;).......

Parties just allow the opportunity of mass spamming by certain groups. We can't do anything about the possiblity of block votes if you really want to organise one on an issue you feel strongly enough about but when we had parties before people would sign up, get all excited and then just drift away, even ignoring the party line when it came to votes. Rather than have parties, just post your recommendation to vote in the thread that accompanies the poll in question and if you put your argument well enough then people will vote with you. There isn't really the need for parties to set the tone for voting in a separate thread outside of the polls. If you make it quite clear that you favour a conquest victory then post to that effect in the first few relevant polls and then people who agree with you will wait to see what you recommend for further polls before casting their own vote.

Yes, duke, that's the main reason behind it.

Parties would only serve to divide the people in the game and then I'd have to start banning people every day for insulting each other, and then, pretty soon, I'd be the only one here. I don't think anyone wants to see me playing the game by myself, right? ;)

duke, I like your signature, BTW. :)

Turns are one month but if the President has to go away for whatever reason then we will decide whether to allow a new President to play a few turns or to just wait for our leader to return. Kev went on a cruise (the lucky so-and-so ;)) in the last game, but it wasn't for very long and so we were prepared to wait for his return and make sure that things were decided so that he could play a chunk of turns when he got back. :) If anyone wants to volunteer for any of the cabinet posts then read the relevant threads in the old Demo game for any guidance.

I'd like a party but since I live in the UK, you wouldn't all be able to come so maybe it's not worth it. Besides, if I only invited the UK fanatics, Dell and anarchy might make marks on my lovely clean carpet. ;)

Thanks Duke!
I tried to find a star icon to put in my signature for the deputy's badge, but realised I couldn't put images in it unless they're CFC smilies. :(
