Alright here is the message i get whenever I try to extract the patch:"! C:\Documents and Settings\Ryan\Desktop\Civ4Patch152.zip: Unexpected end of archive"

Im using WinRAR because it is my default unzipper(I dont know what its called)

My game wont run without the patch
I get a BSOD caused by file: "Nv4_disp" whenever I try to start a new game. I beleive it also mentions something about dumping physical memory

I figure the patch would help.. but I cannot get it to work etheir

bumppp - I really have no idea what to do - this is the only place to get help

Does it matter where i downloaded the patch from? because i dont think I got it from their official site

hi Ryan, I have been having a similar problem. I can download the file with FreeDownloadManager (I have to use this because of my 56k connection that has a 2 hours time limit). The problem begins for me when I try to unzip the patch, I get an error message saying: "Unexpected end of file". I've tried unzipping the file with windows XP unzipper and Winzip.

Can anyone help?

Also Ryan, I have tried downloading from more than 1 mirror and had the same problem, however, when I downloaded the previous patch without the help of a download manager it worked fine.

"Error 1706.No Valid Source could be found for product"
**** this game
im just going to wait for for Elderscrolls Oblivion... at least they cared about consumers enough to test their game

Ryan, do you have SP1 or SP2? Or none of them? Do you have anything non-standards things installed on system? Style-XP type programs, antywirus, firewall, office, CD-copy/emulation stuff... anything that is changing much of system files and possibly work in backgroud?

I'm asking because I've got same error: "Error 1706.No valid source could be found for product Sid Meier's Civilization 4. The Windows Installer cannot continue."

Yeah ive got that stuff...
do I have to get rid of it in order to operate the game??
Ive never had to do that with other games...
Ive got McAffe Virus Protection, Limewire, Roxio Media, and a tonnn of Spyware probably.... so I assume that is one of my problems?

I also have a memory problem when I try and start the game.. because I was able to install the patch.. but my game still goes to a BSOD

*bump*
I check my system specs... or at least some.. and they seem to be ok?
I have the minimum required video card... but I dunno how that would affect anything

It would probably help others to help you if you posted some details about your hardware and operating system.

I'm not a techie but I do know that Nv4_disp is your nVidia graphics display driver. What card do you have and have you got the latest driver for it (check nVidia's site)? If it's minimum spec then you may have to look at your virtual memory settings more closely and adjust your page file settings manually.

Here is everything I know about my computer.
I think I meet the minimum requirements...

System Info
Windows XP v5.1 build 2600
1 x Intel Pentium IV @ 1993Mhz
RAM: 256
Video Card: 64MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with TV Out (64Mb)
DeskTop: 1024x768 (32 Colors)
OpenGL: 1.3.1
DirectX 9.0c
Display: 800x600
GamePort: 5123
Connection via Cable

My Problem: I get an error when i try to unzipp the patch. And before the patch I got a Nv4_disp error when I tried to start a game.

I'm sure that info will help others who may be more informed than me, Ryan_paco.

I'm not a techie but it seems to me your system is rather underpowered for this game, most notably the 256MB RAM; most of this will get used up by Windows itself, leaving very little, if any left over to run the game (if and when you get it running, of course!). You should look into your virtual memory settings straight away and set your page file minimum AND maximum to 1500MB (I think those are the recommended settings anyway - check other threads here for confirmation). Unfortunately the game will probably run like treacle on all but the smaller maps with so little 'real' memory available to it. The 1.52 patch is supposed to be a big help with minimum PC's like yours so installing this is another high priority I would say. Upgrading your RAM to at least 500MB would be a significant improvement if you can afford it, not only for running the game but for everything else on your computer. 1GB would be even better. :p

Your graphics card is at the low end too, memory wise, but may well work OK (I have the same card but with twice the onboard memory) - have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers from nVidia? If not then try them, the game requires certain functions that may not be present if your drivers are out of date. If the new driver makes matters worse you can always roll back to an earlier version.

As for your unzipping error it sounds to me rather like a corrupt or incomplete zip file. You should try and download a fresh copy of the patch, avoiding the use of any download accelerators if you have one. If you scout around these forums a bit I'm sure you will find a link or three to the patch as an .exe file rather than a zip - you might possibly have more luck with that.

This is probably the extent of the advice I can give right now. In summary your primary tasks should be: check/adjust your virtual memory settings, upgrade your video drivers and get a good copy of the latest patch.
You could also do some basic disk maintenance - make sure you have a good amount of free space and defragment your hard drive to give yourself the best possible chance of success.
I'm not sure about your Windows version - does that include updates to SP2? I believe I have read somewhere that you need SP2 because it includes some of the latest graphical advances that this game requires.

You have a little work ahead of you so good luck!

PS. Your computer clock is wrong, unless you are speaking to us from 11 yrs into the future. ;)

Well, I AM a techie and Velvet hit all the nails on the head. A new graphics card (I'd recommend either a GeForce 6600 or ATI X1600) and a gig of PC2100 RAM would do you wonders.
