Unable to patch - Windows 7

Hi, I just installed Civ 4 complete. I loaded up the game from the Beyond the Sword.exe

I am trying to install the patch. I go into the game, click on advanced, and click on updates. It downloads the updates, but when it is done downloading it says it needs to exit the game to install. But when I exit the game nothing happens. No patch installs. I have found where it downloads the patch in the _Civ4Patch directory. I try to click on that exe in there to install the patch, but windows 7 throws up the crash dialog asking me if I want to send it to windows.

I am using windows 7, could this be some sort of permissions issue? Has anyone else been able to successfully install the 3.19 patch using windows 7.

It has been successfully installed on W7. I've not got W7, but going from what other people have said:

The 3.19 patch often seems to not work properly in-game. Try downloading it outside the game rather than use the in-game download and make sure that you run it as administrator (right click. run as administrator). Some people have also found that they have to install 3.17 prior to installing 3.19 so it may be worth downloading and installing that first and then installing 3.19. More details are in Lemon's Civ/Vista Guide which is also worth reading for W7. You can get the downloads from this site.

Great!! Thanks that worked. Going to 3.17 first then 3.19 worked great.

Now I am getting an a message saying my settings have been moved to low because I don't meet the recommended hardware. Trying to figure out why it is saying that because I have a very fast machine and powerful videocard for this game.

Good to hear it installed.

Have you checked that you have the latest drivers for your card?

If you post your dxdiag results someone with more idea than me may have more info to help you. There have been issues reported with certain drivers for certain cards.

open the civilizationIV.ini and set hideminspecwarnings to 1 - this warning sometimes triggers on adequate hardware - if the check doesn't go through fast enough.
