Underground?

Hello,

I really do not know what is so fascinating about an underworld/a celestial world. If you want more space to place, choose a bigger map. If you want more complexity in micromanagement, than move every unit single. I dont know.

I sincerely believe that the current solution to let Hell spread on a normal surface and change the world slowly .. well it is the most fascinating idea since the Civ Concept was born. (maybe just matched by the idea of a creative guy with nickname Kael who decided to use promotions for a ... SPELL System :) )

If you ask me whether I need an underworld I say NO. I would love to see more graphics. I would love to be able to tinker with my own units (like in Master of Orion), but an underworld .. HELL, no :)

it is part of the fantasy world heritage. I also don't need to have a dwarven civ, or elven civ, or whatever, but they are there because this is a fantasy mod.

You forgot to mention magic and fantasy creatures in general. What is so fascinating about any of it?

It all fits in the traditional fantasy setting, which is what this mod is all about.

Nobody is stopping you. Start modding. That doesn't mean other people can't have what they like too.

A kind of underground: a big map, x-wrap(if any wrap at all) bottom or top side separated with mountains, hell terrain behind them and all players get one city in there and have obsidian gates to them, hell wont spread too soon and more gates only with passage through the ether, not a very good model but the best that can be done with vanilla ffh2.
Other possibility is "islands" of underground, surrounded by mountains and long passes through them. Then either desert or hell or something inside like this:
x=mountain .=inside terrain
xxxx.xxxx
x....xx...x
x.xxxx.x.x
x........x..
xx........x
xxxxxxxx

:( we try not to create the "typical" fantasy setting. though we have to do it a bit, because it is easier for new players to understand the concepts.
I hope you still feel some originality in FfH, otherwise we would have failed miserably...

EDIT: @zxcvbnm: this was discussed almost a year ago, and the conclusion was/is, that the AI could not manage it in an enjoyable way. So, you could try creating something along the lines of this for a multiplayer only scenario. But I doubt we will ever see it in FfH.

Now, don't worry :D Ya know it is original world and backstory, with many atypical twists.

I wonder could you make two maps in one map, handled in way that you have, say 100x100 tile map. Then you take 20x100 part out. Then you create special terrain in SDK that in any way mimics end of map and separate small part out with it. You would get two maps, with no graphical issues since each is accessed simply by scrolling, and also no silly issues such as: Weird feeling that 'hell is behind the mountains', hawk flying around and seeing hell, rangers and such units accidentally enter hell...

Yeah thats possible, just not very AI friendly. The AI works on a 2 dimensional grid for movement. Trying to teach it about "jump points" (connectors between the two maps) would be a huge challenge. It might even require a patching rewrite to work well which is way beyond what we are willign to do to get this sort of functionality.

to be true, i think its not worth the effort :)
