The regional laws supplement details exceptions for several regions including the Eurozone, though personally I've never trusted these pick-and-choose provisions since I don't know how they determine the user's access point.

They probably don't and just have that as a disclaimer to make us feel good while banking on the notion that nobody is ever going to actually file a complaint, let alone prove his data was abused in court.

I had said some time ago that the REAL dystopian sci-fi fiction products to worry about in the future were NOT Neo-Socialist (1984, Brave New Word), Neo-Fascist (the Hunger Games, V for Vendetta), Theocratic (the Handmaid's Tale), Wartime Military Emergency Powers (Starship Troopers, Star Wars, Episodes II and III and Clone Wars), General Civilization Collapse (Mad Max, Escape from New York, the Syndic), or unusual (Demolition Man, Brazil), but the ones dealing with the undisguised Corporate Dictatorship (Robocop, The Running Man, Blade Runner, Cyberpunk 2020). It's happening, while everyone is vigilant for the other types.
