UNGY7 We'll do it by ourself

Got it.

Great set ungy! (not that I'm surprised :))
I'd kill the scout, maybe we can get a peace treaty/cease fire from it. I think that's better than choking actually. And who knows, maybe we can grab another worker. ;)

If the copper warrior doesn't find any food 1NW do we settle one off the coast for sheep or borrow corn from Paris? I think I prefer the latter because there doesn't seem to be many resources in the northern territory and we'd miss out on some green terrain if we don't have the sheep available. Another bonus is that the lake gets better.

Furthermore the capital has more food than it needs, the city gets settled immediately and it has an improved tile immediately. I'm tempted to settle it there even if we find fish or something (as long as the seafood can be utilised properly with another city).

I see now that we won't have mysticism to pop our border either so borrowing corn seems very good compared to the alternatives. I don't think one off the coast for sheep is good at all.

I think fishing -> pottery is much better than pottery. Fishing is basically free as it gives a bonus to the pottery research (and we need both anyway)

Declearing war does make him build more units and limits his development (which means less cities and workers to capture later on). However I still think it is worth it as it boosts our development NOW rather than after we've taken out lincholn. Lincholn is very peaceful. If we could get peace again he would stop building units again...

1 tile off the coast is not best, but if there is no other food there(seafood) that might be the best option to get the sheep. Though i guess it is possible to borrow the corn from the capital at any rate (getting both delays copper though).

From what I can see of washington it got slightly better long term production potential than Paris. And as such wonders there might be good. Without ston and after a rush i don't think henge is possible, but mids and then some marble wonders should definatly be possible. One option which might be easier than the alternatives with this map setup could be culture vic (though it might be boring and i know some people dislike it).

Settling with the copper in the second ring is not an option.

Cultural victory goes a little against the spirit of the variant IMO and I don't like it in general either.

Edit: Maybe consider mining the pigs instead of pasturing it? We have more food than our happiness cap can handle. Not sure though, maybe 2-pop whips can handle most of it and 3F is so much better than 2H in general that I must be high for suggesting it. ;)

I've mined pigs in the past, but usually not when you have AH already ;). Mining them would likely get the axes we want out faster though, two other 5 food tiles allow us to grow plenty fast already.

Due to us not having myst and wanting pottery soon, settling for the corn instead of the sheep might be better though (this doesn't really go together with mining the pigs).

definately fishing first--yes we're not in such a hurry anymore for pottery

I also would settle to share the corn and figure we'll make use of the sheep later. If there's a seafood then it get's tough as there may not really be another spot up that coast--in that case I'd be inclined to settle for the seafood.

You make a good point about whacking the scout and peace--we also may get peace once we chop an axe or two and our power improves--in any case we should take peace if we can I think.

Just wondering, why are there tons of roads on various tiles instead of more improvements (farms on the floodplains and pasture on the pigs)? I would personally have prioritized improving stuff rather than roading.

the pasture we lost to an event the last turn.
I chose the roads over farming a FP (which may not have been correct) as I was assuming we'd cottage and also that when we got BW we'd hustle to chop and connect the bronze.

Started playing. Here's the updated map for our bronze city -- where do you want it?

I'll finish later today.

I'm thinking we settle on the copper and switch research to mysticism -- I'd hate to lose the fish. It does slow us down a little, but I think we'll manage Lincoln anyway.

I killed Lincolns scout and we have peace (cease fire) now.

On the copper sounds best to me.

As long as lincholn doesn't go wheoohrn he won't produce many units. Another worker steal would be savage though.

Myst -> fishing -> pottery?

What a headache situation, Rusten summed it up already there are 3 possibilities for settling the second city.

settle of coast 1ne of copper. bad solution long term but it gets us sheep and silver fairly soon. the silver's especially nice early but we're charismatic so we don't need it that early for the extra happy, the extra research is nice though.

settle on copper it'll take some time now to get the second city running. long term the fish is much better than the copper of course also since the copper's on a desert.

settle 1e of copper borrow corn, this doesn't hurt the capital but it loses fish and the silver'll take longer

Writing things out often helps, i'm sure Rusten's solution is best settle on copper. Most of the hammers will come from capital anyway.

phew guys, thought you'd miss the fishy... I tried the very beginning but the 1st hut popped mysticism and made the game much easier.

I'd settle the copper.
I'm pretty confident we can handle a delay on taking Linc but with our variant and the lands we see so far I hate to compromise the long term.

Settle Orleans 2440 BC and start on an axeman. No barracks as this city won't be getting more than 1 unit for the rush anyway.

I put the settler overflow into a barracks and left it at 19/50 for a future 2-pop whip once most of the anger went away.

Mysticism is in -- chop monument in Orleans.

2240 BC:
Lincoln leaves a worker (as I expected) on the pigs. I can't help myself and declare.

Civ4ScreenShot0426.jpg

Unfortunately he had enough archers in the city to make him attack me back. We lost the warrior and the captured worker.

Some turns after we kill 2 of his archers near Paris.

1920 BC:
Deja vu.

New York is guarded by a single archer and Lincoln is not in slavery so we take the city turn after.

Currently turn 55/1800 BC.
Our work boat just finished and Orleans will pop its border next turn.
We have an axeman standing on the horse tile ready to pillage if we want to.
Lincoln has not settled for the copper yet.
Paris whip anger for 2 turns still. It has a 1-turn monument in queue for 30/30 hammers. We can finish the monument and then 2-pop whip another axe in 2 turns (make sure not to get more than 5 hammers into the build).

Might be an idea to send a work boat scouting the southern island -- there could be a link to other civs. We probably won't find anyone, fractal maps usually set civs next to each other on a snaky line IME and rarely north/south, but if we do it would be huge. Even if we can't tech trade we can still get overseas trade routes. And if we don't find anyone we'd like to settle an overseas city ourselves.

Nice set Rusten. Orleans can borrow a grassland forest from Paris.

If we get peace he would stop building units right? So there isn't really any reason to not get peace until we are ready to take washington. Pillaging the horses might even allow us to steal another worker.

How do we think about using flying camera to see the territory around us (the island to the south)?

Good ideas, i'll probably play wednesday. It would be great if someone on the roster after me can switch turns with me here since i'm also up in the deity challengers game, if not i'll play this one first.

now that he's had a border pop we won't be able to pull that off.
we might want a cease fire--I don't think we are too far away from atacking Washington--we have 7 axes some with 2 promos.

at war I'd normally send a single axe to scout Washington--if we cease fire we won't be able to obviously. Now I would think cease fire he should build a worker and maybe even a settler, so around 6-8 turns should be about right--get a 2 pop whip so we should have around 10 axes to attack with.

I've not done that--how does that work?
if it gives extra view then I don't think we should

We can send a unit to scout washington then CF then when all axes get to new york attack again.
