Normally you can only have art for Early, Middle and Late, is there a way so lets say, the great general art can change for more eras?

Lets say you want to have the ancient warlord art, medieval, a new one for the Enlightenment and Industrial eras, and the existing late one for modern.

At one point I wrote about a plan to set art for each era rather than the hardcoded early/late setup. If it works purely on era level, people could add 10 eras and that way get 10 arts for a unit if they want to. The concept of hardcoding the number of graphical eras in the DLL seems flawed by design.

The biggest problem in this is that I never even started writing this as it isn't top priority.

I don't think you can add more arts for a unit other than to mod the DLL. The DLL hardcodes what you can do with xml and python can't affect the code in question. Maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea if I take a break and make this modcomp. Staring at the same section of code for too long can make you :crazyeye:

Also another note: it might not be the greatest idea to have political statements in your signature. The Americans have managed to really divide people and resort to lame name calling without substance. The topic here is modding and it would really be counter productive if the modders break out in a fight. The modding manpower is too low as it is and we shouldn't lose anybody due to "the forum always makes me feel sad/angry. I better not go there". I tried that before joining this forum and it's awful and do not wish for that to happen to anybody here. Because of that I'm intentionally politically neutral on the modding subforums and I would wish everybody else to follow that example. What you do outside of modding is your business, but we should try to keep the modding community on topic.

How difficult do you think it will be?
It depends on who you ask. If you ask in the quick question thread, the answer would be "impossible" (if you have to ask). If you ask me, the answer is "the usual". I have a fairly detailed plan and have the needed knowledge/experience to code every step. It's just a matter of getting started, write the code and see if the idea works as intended. I'm pondering a little bit if I can do something clever about "getting started" to simplify the process of making modcomps and possibly diff files. Git should be useful for this if used correctly.
