My copy of Civ 5 crashes upon launching a new game and I appears that reinstalling it from the Mac App Store should do the trick.

How do I uninstall all files (including saved games)? Note that this is not the Steam version.

Thanks!

Eric

Hi, welcome :wavey:

Go to /Applications and trash the Civilization V Campaign Edition.app file. Reinstall by going to the App Store and selecting Purchases. You should be able to install a fresh copy of the software.

I don't know why you want to delete the saves, but if you feel the need, Option(Alt) click the Go menu in Finder and select Library. This should take you to the hidden Library folder in your Home directory. Look in there for Containers/com.aspyr.civ5campaign/Data/Library/Application Support/Civilization V Campaign Edition/Saves/ That's where all the Saved games should be.

Thanks Alan,

I've already tried deleting the app and reinstalling it from the App Store, but it still crashes. I'm thinking a fresh install might do the trick. ;)

The quick way to check if anything in your past usage is affecting the software is to create a new user account, and run Civ5 from that account. That should ignore any old files in your existing ~/Library folder.

If you want to edit your existing user account, there are some preferences and such that are more likely to have an effect than saves. Existing saves are pretty much dead files until you try to load one.

Look for ~/Library/Preferences/com.aspyr.Civ5.plist, and trash that. Also look elsewhere in ~/Library/Containers/com.aspyr.civ5campaign/Data/Library/Application Support/Civilization V Campaign Edition/. There are caches that might cause problems.

For the Mac App version, deleting ~/Library/Containers/com.aspyr.civ5campaign/ should be sufficient. The point of the sandboxing that's required on App Store applications today is to keep everything in that one container.

I'd recommend sending in a ticket on http://support.aspyr.com and seeing if our technical support can reproduce the issue in the office.

Thanks, gents! I've deleted the application as well as the folder in the container directory and am now re-downloading from the App Store. I did send in a ticket to Aspyr last night, and they as much said the same (delete the app and folder).

As an aside, the reason why I'm doing all this is that two days ago after being so frustrated with the crashes, I ended up reformatting my hard drive and downloading a fresh install of Civ, and it worked perfectly. I thought I could just pull files over from Time Machine and be good, but the result .... was ... less than optimal. ;)

I've now reinstated my last backup and deleted the file/folder and emptied the recycle bin.

I'll let you know how it goes.

P.S. I think I may need professional help. No one should go through all of this to play a game...but it is Civ we're talking about here...

So.....yeah..... Probably should have just deleted the container directory rather than spending two hours re-downloading the application. ;)

Lesson learned...
