Winged Hussar 13 - I like them, not their upgrade path. If you have to wait 3 eras for next upgrade, there's something wrong. Awesome unit, that can even dominate on late renaissance (that's saying a lot for lancer UU), but they will be sitting useless when GWI comes to field. If you patiently wait 3 eras, you will get nice helicopters, but during that time they will just eat your gpt.

B17. It's not bad. But it's the worst left, as it comes fairly late when you'd probably win without it so it doesn't really change the game.

Siege Tower. You can create a whole strategy around this. Beeline them, and take cities to fill techs you missed. 2 or more of these will terrify enemy cities. It's expensive to go to war early game, but you'll be making a lot of money by taking cities down so quickly.

Janissaries are what make the Ottomans more than a gimmicky civ, in my opinion. Amazing when going on a late game conquest spree.

On the other hand, I have never really found myself utilising any type of Cavalry. Might be down to playstyle, but I find the remaining UUs see more use in my games. Even the Hussar.

Also, quick question: why do people believe that the Tercio and Musketeer are better UUs than the Minuteman? I never really thought either were as useful, especially Musketeer.

B17 0 If you have the ability to spam bombers you're more than likely already in a position of power. I don't feel like these change the balance much. It's also a long time to wait for a UU.

Longbowman 41 A lot of the debate betw these and CKNs has been focused on promotions, who will get them faster, who's stronger, etc. The truth is even with military tradition and an armory only a few of either unit are going to hit level 4 before being upgraded to gats. In my opinion a 2 range gat is just more useful than a 1 range gat that can attack twice. Mainly because they aren't competing with melee units for attack position and are more effective when being used as a garrison. Every longbowman that upgrades will have 2 range including ones in garrisons who've never seen any action at all. Longbows are stronger, can avoid taking damage and upgrade to better gatling guns.

I really like that a lot of the units left are Vanilla or pre G&K DLC units. Just goes to show that the game is more balanced between old and new than some people think. 6 of the top ten are pre G&K :)

More Chu love! Range is overrated once you hit Gatling anyway. Artillery/Bomber spam will be doing most of the damage (to anything left that survived medieval, that is ;)). Just pick up march and use Chu-Gatling as your pseudo-melee blitz/march front line. If they manage to get +1 range, then all the better :D

Had to vote either Cossack or Winger, and had to go with Winger primarily for upgrade path. Granted, Cossack take a while to upgrade, too, but when you do they will be more useful for the late-game trek from city to city so may as well have promotions stacked on the unit that will carry over. I suppose highly upgraded anti-tank Wingers would be okay for a peaceful game, but how many people pick up anti-tank guns in smaller/peaceful games?

I think Winged Hussar is cool as well, but sadly the lancer line is just not that relevant.

Keshik 39 Keshiks must live. And they always do, is the thing. You could run a Keshik swarm into hills/forests and attack a city, and you'd still come out with all your men. If you pre-build chariot archers, these can start with quite a bit of EXP and rack them up in bunches fast. And worst off all, there basically isn't a defense. Not great wall, you can't use infantry to kill them as they'd get mowed, hell, you can't even run knights at them since they could keep speed with a knight and still have time to shoot.

Duh, it's a medieval unit. Almost all other units can last max 2eras
