I think that every civ should have a unique wonder. Building it would have an effect corresponding to your trait e.g more commerce/extra science research. The US could have the Statue Of Liberty, the English Stonhenge/Palace Of Westminster, the Sumerians the Walls Of Uruk and so on. I'll make a complete list if people like the idea. This would entail giving the Pyramids to Egypt and making a new wonder to give the free granaries.

This would go against the idea of rewriting history. The idea of wonders is that any civ can build them so the great wall doesn't always end up in china, but in a new place and thereby making a new history.
I would rather like to see something like trait specific wonders, so there still will be competition and no predetermined history. It isn't realistic that the zulu built adam smiths trading company, but it could have been the french as they are also a commercial civ.

Theoden

Since most civs reign to power as a civ was only a few hundred years, all the wonders would have be blocked to together. This would give a civ a ton of power during one era, and would be weak for the rest. Babylonians and other earlier risers would be weak afterwars, Romans and Greeks during the middle ages, and the Europeans and Americans during the final ages, if they make it to it.

I agree with Theoden. The idea is writting history not playing the one that allready exists. If so then countries should be the way they were at each time being which is not good. Things r ok the way they r concerning this matter. (that's my belief)

I agree that this is something we probably shouldn't change. I know it's dumb seeing the Russians build Pyramids, and the Arabs build the statue of Liberty, but it's how it must be.

I think it would be way more interesting to create different art assets for the wonders.

Take the pyramids, for example. There's the near east version of the pyramids (the version we know), along with a mesoamerican version, a european version, an asian version, and an african version. To extend the example, the mesoamerican pyramids would look more like the temples in Mexico (even though the pyramids are tombs), the asian pyramids would have multiple layers with flared roofs, the european version would be constructed of white stone and marble (think greco-roman), and the african version would resemble more pink clay, perhaps with an ornament at the top.

By the end of the game, when everyone has built all the wonders, you end up with a strange bizarro universe -- where the pyramids have a distinctly Japanese flavor, and the great wall looks distinctly Roman. It would really add to the sense of immersion without making gameplay particularly more complex.

What has the statue of liberty done for america? It was built by the french anyways.

How about independence hall? Or even just the constitution itself? Our constitution is unique in that it gathered the best works of the best (political) philosophers in history as well as ethics from the bible, and put them all together to make the most powerful document in the world today. Our constitution is the longest surviving document of its type and it has been the basis on which many new governments have based their own.

The benefits of the constitution for america can include:
*A decrease in corruption (50-75% perhaps?)
*1+ content citizen (police modifier)
*1+ commerse per base (taxes)
*Offensive modifier against pirates (privateers)

Thoughts?

I don't think this is suppose to be in this thread anyway, but you ask for some thoughts...

If you ask anyone, "Give me an object which represent liberty?" Most of them are going to tell you "The Statue of Liberty".

Not only that, but for million of immigrant that came to America to start a new life, most of them saw the Statue of Liberty. That "worthless statue built by the French" is a symbol of American Independance toward their "English Opressor". Not only that, but it represent America as a whole. (Show a picture of the Statue of Liberty to anyone, and most of them will think about "America")

Its worthless? Think again.

"*Offensive modifier against pirates (privateers)"

It's sure not working in 2004.

About the "whole unique wonder thing", I don't like. Many has told why its not good, I won't repeat.
About the "whole unique appearance", I don't like it either.

Wonders are unique, they should have unique apperance. The Statue of Liberty shouldn't be "asian" if the Japanesse builds it... How the hell are you gonna "Africanize" Theory of Evolution, or Leonardo WorkShop? Or Statue of Zeus?

While I'm all about making each civ more unique, I think that even if there are no unique wonders, modding will allow such wonders to be available. They're already possible to make in Civ3...

Actually the Statue was originally meant for the entrance to the Suez Canal. Of course the original project fell through and they gifted it to the US instead.

yes so the americans wouldnt have a wonder so this would never work.I'm ok with the Zulu having the Temple of Zeus

Ever watch Faranheit 9/11?

what if you built a wonder, like the Statue of Liberty, as, say, the French, and sold it or gave it away, to, say, the Americans. its realistic and a good way of making money in emergencies

I was just planning on posting this when I saw this, but sumeria should have the ziggurat of Ur. I like this idea because each civilization could have a different bonus that would give you more variety in civs

Which was I suggested it in the first place. A Small Wonder no-one else could have that brings in benefits according to you traits. It's not like I'm saying Wonders can only be built by the the civ that actually built them in real life.
