Unit appreciation thread

I'd also like to put it in a good word for the guided missile. While obviously not as lethal as its nuclear counterpart, the guided missile is very useful in certain situations. The ones which I find most obvious are those involving naval combat. For example, a nuclear sub loaded up with guided missiles becomes a very powerful anti-naval strike craft, and a missile cruiser so loaded becomes the most powerful capital ship in the game, carrier with aircraft possibly excluded. Guided missiles also serve as a way for a city to strike at approaching ranged units before they can attack the city, giving the city's other defensive units time to kill the rest of the attackers.

Let's hear it for the humble galleas! I play a lot of naval maps and I start to feel a lot safer against invasion of my home island once I can build a few of these - and of course they may one day become SOTL/Frigates so that other civs will feel less safe!

War chariots. Many people here hates war chariots.

Note that this Assyrian player who I am playing against is NOT newbie/idiot but really good player, in fact better than me, but I had one advantage - war chariots ;D

In multiplayer, many things are different. And war chariots were really awesome in this early rush ;D Super fast, no horses, stronger than archers and normal chariots and in slow terrain... As slow as normal archers. What not to love? :p

By the way, all mounted units in multiplayer are really important.

I'd like to mention the good ol' Warrior. Protecting you from vicious barbs since 3000 BC

I don't get the hate for WC on these boards. They are exellent.

They are equally strong as Composites, require no horses (means, you can ALWAYS build them and sell of horses), and they come with Wheel tech. In other words, you don't need to waste time to research 2-3 extra techs just to get Composite Bows for either defense or offense, and instead you can focus either on Religion\Science techs or go straight for Petra (and since Egypt has desert bias, you have a good chance of building it).

Same goes for Indian War Elephants, altho they require horses if I remember correctly.
