And here's a bonus unit for you all to enjoy.

This unit comes with, Attack, Default, Run, Death and Fidget anims.

No sounds, or pedia. If any one wants to create these then go ahead.

Here's a preview pic of the attack anim:

I forget - which country was the Hussar from?

Poland. They pretty much dominated Central Europe with those cavalry.

JimmyH, I was asking months ago if anyone could convert AoE units to Civ3.
Thanks!

Now if I can just get the ini files to work... ;)

Actually I think they originated from Hungary. But since they were efficient fast light cavalry, they developped in large plain areas such as Poland and Russia.
If I remember well, their name means or is coming from something like hunter.

About Poland, the Sobieski (Jan III) who defeated the Turkish army in front of Vienna was wearing the typical Hussard kaftan (the sort of jacket on one arm) but Polish were even more famous for their Lancers especially during the Napoleonic Empire.

Wyrmshadow,

I'd be interested in a later version of the husaria (lancer, attached wings, etc), but you aren't making it easy. As best I can tell, the only way to derive it from the site you linked is by downloading a 2.5 meg executable (those kinda scare me) and then digging through it for your unit.

Why don't you post the unit on the appropriate board, here?

I have tried to add sound to Jimmy's units without success.
Anyone got them running correctly?

I've been wanting the Hussar for a long time too.

The default animation is kind of spastic though, it never stops moving.
Can a different (more calm) default be made?

Thanks,

This unit is from Age of Kings, I just extracted the images and put them together to make this unit.

What do I need to do to get the trebuchet graphics from you? Is someone else working on this? Are you working on this? Can I work on it? Will you not ignore me please?

Hussars are from Hungary. I dont know why we call those horsemen from Poland 'Hussars' since they are NOT hussars. Hussar was a hungarian army type.
And dont say that Poland is famous about anything heh. Poland is slav nation with slavish military, nothing more.
It is and was a minor slav country all the time.

RE: "It is and was a minor slav country all the time."

Perhaps you might benefit from a history lesson. "Hussars" is, indeed, a Hungarian word. However, this version of the unit, with the winged saddle, is actually Polish. (Source)

As for the "minor" Slavic country, check this map out, circa 1700 AD, and tell me where Hungary is hiding. Hint: it's not the huge orange area labeled "Poland". (Source).

By the way, it's not really good form to speak that way of another's culture.

Heh I dont think that the map shows anything interesting. The fact is that Poland never had real power as a nation.
They owned quite big territories with Lithuania but those lands were quite worthless for any other nation.

Second Note. I dont think that a normal European cares about the Slavs at all. Most people in the European countries dont like the Slav Nations like Poland, Russia, Slovakia etc. I say this without any racism. Its a fact. I dont know why...maybe they never were a real part of Europe?
I dont wanna start a flaming war here, but please dont say foolish things. Winged horsemen is ok but hussar is a Hungarian army type. Im from Germany but even I know it. I dont think that any Hungarian likes the idea that someone made up the 'Polish Hussars'. LOL
As a German I dont want that some Polish slav use our army types for example.

"re: those lands were quite worthless for any other nation"

Which is, of course, why no one ever tried to take them?

You need to see someone about those little angry faces. This forum is not the place to voice you opinions about the popularity of certain races. Those less measured than myself might take it poorly.

As for hussars being a Hungarian/Germanic unit, perhaps a change in semantics might enable you to use more smileys. The Poles referred to their cavalry units as the "Husaria", or as "Husarz".

Yup I had the same observation. Like the "Paladin" get a group together and its some kind o ancient era line dance. no big though very cool looking unit! And great choice of art (winged type). The Winged Hussar in Cossacks art of War is very well done also... Which gets me thinkin... (oh no, not again) can Cossacks art be converted to Civ3? I am by no means literate in these things but Cossacks has some great unit art which could fit in well for civ3 if convertable.

Never the less, great job JimmyH!!!
