Anyone else experience this?
I know it's there from civ5. However when you now need more workers, and 2 trade routes per city, its not alot left for units. I got support for 52 units, and im 3 above. The penalty,? - 30% production in all cities. Its 10% each unit over.
And you can hit your cap easily both early game and late.

Imo i dont see any reason why this unit limiter even is in the game. We already pay maintenance on units.

Please remove it, or at least tone it down.

I never have hit the limit tbh.

I have never hit the unit limit... Trade units do NOT count against the unit count, regardless of what the military advisor shows...

increase your population, and question if you actually need every unit you have... Have you got units standing around doing nothing? then delete them. 3 units is not going to cause a war.

I have bumped into the limit once or twice. I was surprised to find out that satellites count.

which satelites count? I have spammed solar collectors, to totally cover my lands, took 22 over 6 cities, and I did not hit the limit.

I hit the limit playing as Germany in civ 5 since you can capture barbarians. I hit it in BE too, likely because I had frenzied aliens on and needed to clear some out.
It does seem redundant but it might serve a purpose in this game since units can create health. However I've only ever hit the limit early on or late when I've already for all intents and purposes one and am just spamming units to get it done faster.

Either way, i really dont see the point in this limitation. BE is a different game than ciV. It hinders potential big early military, and you should be hit hit with that severe penalty any way.

I usually hover around the threshold for most of the match, until my empire is totally out of hand in late game. I just play like that, can always use more soldiers, until you don't need them anymore because you've destroyed the opposition. If the limit wasn't there I'd just keep building them... and even then I sometimes intentionally go over the limit temporarily.

If I had to say why, I'd say it was to ensure that the total number of units per map (y) would level-off to a horizontal asymptote over time (x) - i.e. that there would be a predictable upper limit of total units. Maybe that is fanciful, I've never actually tried going past -100% (I've gone quite low in BNW, like -60%, but we used to play taller there), what happens then if you keep buying units with energy? Do you just keep on keeping on? Could you fill every single tile with units? Maybe my notebook would spontaneously combust!

And I don't think it really hurts the gameplay either, even with the fairly generous (according to others here!) limit now I find myself a bit stretched sometimes, and that's not a bad tension to have now and then, the game is easy enough. Surely there's a mod for that though, if you really don't want it?

I hadn't considered that. It might not be a gameplay thing but a technical thing and they worked it into the gameplay so it didn't seem so arbitrary.

I soubt its technocal, since the pwnalty is just as harsh eaely game as late fame. And we have seen the carpets of death on deity civ 5.

52 units and you are 3 over = lol.
Not sure if I have ever utilized 52+ units in any CivBE game I have played. =.=

Too strict?! I have never hit that limit in any Civ V/BE game I've played. Never. If anything, that would probably mean it's too generous and raising it for the AI would make for a good AI bonus on higher difficulty levels.

I hit the unit limit for the first time yesterday, and the circumstances were so out-of-the-ordinry that I dont see the unit limit as a problem.

I had only three cities, going purity and planning a domination on a small map (dunno if map size affects unit limit - I assume it does). I was at Purity1 for a while, delaying two affinity quests while I built a large mass of cheap T1 rangers and rovers. That, plus three explorers and six trade units put me at the limit. But I quit that game 20 turns later because it was too easy - I was able to do whatever I wanted and had already won. Had there been a real AI threat to my victory, either local military or a competitive distant empire, I would not have been able to amass so many cheap units. A distant near-peer would have pressured me to put more resources into teching and growing. A close military threat would have pressured me to increase affinity earlier, thus reducing the number of units I could afford to build.

Just to make it clear. There is UI bug where TR units are counted in the limit, although they do not affect the limit. So limit threshold is higher then it appears from military advisor.

In a recent MP duel game, I hit the unit limit, mainly because my expansion was curtailed by opponent as I landed on the side of the protean continent while my opponent landed closer to the centre. Since he built up an army early on, I had to do the same, and I was affected by the production penalty. It doesn't actually bite too deep if you have other production bonuses in effect.

Otherwise, I've barely hit the unit cap. I still think it should stay as it is similar to older system where units cost local production to maintain and it is a restriction on those who decide to zerg early game.

I do not think I have ever hit the cap - in Five or BE. Granted, I rarely go for a Domination win - but even when I do, I have yet to run into it. I forgot there was a limit, to be honest.

I've only hit it in BE because of trade units. But, if you subtract your trade units and any unit you got for free (Outpost quest bonus) you should get or be close to the "real" number of units counted for the limit.

Thanks! Did not notice that - very good to know!
