this is a light transport if you consider the C-130 a medium and the C5 a heavy. If you consider the C5 to a be a super-jumbo, then the c-295 would be a medium/large and the C-130 a large.
It can carry up to 75 troops compared to 92 or so for the c130, and around 45 paratroopers compared to 64. The biggest limitation on the c295 are its relative speed and range. The C130 moves at around 400mph for around 7 hours. While the c-295 moves at 300 mph for just under 4 hours. (range - 2800 v. 830miles), plus the C130 shows up carrying at least 20% more cargo.
The c295 is fairly typical of transports of this class. Over 20 nations use the C295, including the USCG.
