Unit Preview: Modern Legionary

conmsidering it was I who was the one who begged him into doing a defunct unit, which although the concept was interesting, and still could be an *interesting* unit, is far inferior to this one, i think I've earnded a little right o have a little input into the unit too

I mean gas masks, warrior monks, and armor no tbeing useful on a battle feild? (which in most wars it was, particurlaey WWI, and post WWII wars, when modern body armor was put into development)

I mean please, try to keep with the spirit of the origional concept of the unit, which had an entire thread devoted to it, located right here- http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=85592

that unit is basically exactley what I want- a modern Roman legionary, the only change I really want would be putting the sword from the right to left side, denoting an officer

and that would be it, two units, though the more modern one being the more important, but in a great situation two units, one to replace the intantry, basicalyl waht is done now, and one, slightlyl different in terms of chest and back plate, unform pattern and such, but otherwise the same, well with different weaponry

I dont need anything real fancy, just a unit that brings back the classicness of Roman design and tradition in a sensable form.

You know, A stilt wearing, jet pack using kilted version might be nice for thoes Highland Games Scenarios; I'm sure the romans really want to win the Jetpack Stilt Race even this year ;)

Can't wait until this unit is complete.

You know what's one weapon which would be somewhat useful for a WWI soldier, a pilum. That'd be interesting.. well to me anyhow. (Note: This isn't a request)

As for the Modern Roman Soldier, I think it would be better to use a desert-tone Kevlar set of armor rather than black. I would also include a desert-tone helmet. I remember watching the show From Tactical to Practical and they showed this guy in prototype armor they are going to use for soldiers soon, and it looked much like kevlar but more versatile, and it was lighter and a tan (desert-tone) color.

becasue it wa smade for a desert enviorment- but future battles are not goignm to be fought in the terrian as much as in the strrets of cities, where blacks and greys will be far more useful as camo patterns

I second JWong's statement.:goodjob:

BUMP ;)

so how goes the project, I hope all this bickering hasnt turned you away from it.

I Hope he is still doing it. The Altered Tech Tree Mod depends on it.

How much smaller were they W.I.N.T.E.R? I haven't really done an in game check in a while and I thought they were a pretty good size...
I thought I did move the sword from the right to the left Xen?

Yes I'm still working on it... I haven't been to my computer since Wednesday.

@Kinboat- yes, thw sword is on the correct side- did I say other wise? if so, sorry for the confusion (as a note, it shoudl be on te right side- it would be the fastest way to see if the soldire in question would be a commsioned officer (the first few ranks fo modern C-O's are sort of mixed in differeng amounts in the centurion)

and yes, your last few units have been a bit smaller then stard size- perhaps the size o fthe hoplite would be good- its one of the larger foot units in the game, and if any custom unit diserves to be large, it would be this one- its awesome (:

(and good to hear your still working on it ;))

Let me get this straight. He is going to be rifle armed? Gotcha. But a Modern one is coming along? Also Gotcha.

Xen.. I have a question for you. What should we call this guy? Any LAtin Word we could stick in there? 'Modern Legion' Sounds well.. dumb.

well, I'd liek to leave the name "modern legionary" for a truelly modern counter part- though somthign along the lines of "Infantry legion" in english, or maby "trench legionary" in latin, or english would be good as well... "Cohors Fossa" dosent sound that bad either really

Perhaps the Cohors Fossa could be what the the Legionari Fulminata unit upgrades to?

I'm glad that you're still working on this, Kinboat. As usual, you're units are superb. I hope to one day be able to be 1/10th as good as you (providing I can convince my chain of command to let me keep my desktop on the ship, since Poser 5 runs like freeze-dried molasses on my notebook) when it comes to unit making. :worship:

well, I'm still looking for someone to do the rifleman replacement for the Roman, which is what the Fulminata weould properlly upgrade to...

though I might as well pu tin my 2 cents on the uniqu unit line for the Romans- in my opinion, th estandar dlegion is a very good unit in the game, but as is, lacks luster- to give it the extra polish it desreves, i've givin it anothe rhit point, and mad eit more expensive as well- more over, for every Unit in the unique Roman line, I;ve made the trooper a vaiable offense and defenve infantry man, usually by upping th eoffense, and somtimes adding a hit point- but also significantlly upping the cost as well.

Update with some textures and civ-sized... I might still change the pants to civ-specific and remove some of the other small spots.
