UNIT REQUEST: Merkava Mk. 4 Tank

Fixed that.

Merkava Mk. 3 modellers reference page with lots of pictures:
http://idfmodelling.free.fr/merkava3.html

I recommend using the set most to the bottom for Information since it is the most similiar (almost identical) by design to the Mk. 4.

Thanks, they are all usefull; however what I realy need is a top down diagram- it is possible to get the proportions from the side/front shots, its much easier from the top.

When I said the Merkava looks similar to all the others, I mean at civ scale things like vents and doors and modular armour are easily over-looked or just don't show up; the body is basicly a big box with tracks, you cant realy tell from the outside whether its bck to front or not.
The only way to tell what the civ III panzer is, is to count the wheels.

Any way here is an example of how I use the pictures to guage the proportions, they dont have to be exact, but if you don't get them roughly right, the unit doesnt come out right;

Okay.

This is Merkava II, so If you use it for proportions it is fine but for the final layout you need to work the edges a bit, make the turret more round etc, to make it look like Merkavah 4.

The following is Merkavah Mk. 3, but it is also with a less rounded turret. The design is almost identical in all Merkavah models, but the turret changed in model 4.

Try and scale the side image of the Merkava 3 in this thread to the one I gave before in order to get the top image proportional to the back images I gave before.

cheers

Now that Merkava II is the one I like :goodjob:. I even have a Model of it :D. I especaly like the squared rounded look :).

Bah, I guess I'll never get to see a Merkava IV in the game :(

No, you just need to give it the ability to carry only foot units, give it a quantity of say 1 or 2 and give it the load and unload functions.

So, is anyone already working on the Mercava?

Its on the list- maybee get it finished this comming week? who knows, iv'e got a lot on my plate.

I met an English couple from Cornwall in Crete.
Does that promote my position? :D
I'm also a fan of Arsenal, does that promote it? ;)

Just kidding,
Cheers, I know you're doing your best :)

This tank is awesome! I remember when they first came out. The rear doors were first put in specifically so they could reload rounds for the main gun faster. That should have sent a message to their enemys " we need bigger doors so when we use our first 60 rds we can go back and get more faster". Not the people to mess with. If/when you get this tank/mod done I'd love to have it.

I will make the Israeli civ religious and scientific. Anyone who disagrees feel free to comment.
What about "Militaristic and Expansionist"? ;)

About the tank: cool thing!

I always played Germans because of the Panzer unit, but his unit could change this! :goodjob:

You're adding WAY too much for the Merkava in the way of capabilities. It's a fine tank, don't get me wrong, but it shouldn't carry an additional unit - sitting on a Merkava is great when rolling over a shantytown, but in combat, not a person on earth is gonna be sitting on the tank - it draws the most fire. Additionally, it cannot carry enough to qualify as carrying an entire unit - way too powerful.

Additionally, other tanks also can employ guided missile fire, so not sure how that plays into your thinking on this...

Creating a Merkava with carry and bombard (and I'm sure increased A/D, which it also doesn't warrant) is too powerful in the game, not to mention for it's true ability. The 'power pack' which you remark about increasing it's defensive rating simply means the engine is in the front of the tank - providing additional protection to the crew compartment as incoming rounds will destroy the engine, not the crew. Nice for the crew, but not giving the unit as a combat effective element an increased defense.

As to Civ traits - Religious is kind of a no brainer! But Religious and Scientific may be too powerful a combination. Maybe religious and militaristic (fight to survive), or industrious(to scratch out a living in less than ideal terrain). I can't think of a reason to give Israel scientific...

The unique unit for Israel should be - the Maccabee (sorta lame sounding I know, you can change it to Machabee), with 2/3/1, maybe available with iron as a resource and Code of Laws as a tech. No reason you have to make the UU so modern...modern UU's generally suck.

I'd also change the name to Hebrew as the Civ...

Now that I think about it, maybe it would be a good one to add to my modpack, along with the Moors...

Hey, if you do this in your mod, gimme some credit if you steal my Machabee idea!!!

Dang it, now *I* want to add them to my modpack. Anyone have a link to a leaderhead for them? No Sharon please...well, only if I have no other choice...

I would say Moses would be a fine leader for the Hebrews..

And in a way it's true that a more ancient UU for the Israelis would fit better...

Today they are not realy a world-moving force, I think they had been more important in ancient times. (Without them there would be no Islam and no Christians)

I think Moses may be a wee bit intimidating for a leader!!! Maybe David or Solomon...

'God Commands me to spit on your proposed deal'

'God has asked me to wage war against thee'

I'd rather not burn in Hell for conquering Moses...

I chose the Machabee for the reasons you mention - a good older unit, they helped restore the Herbews way back in the day, fighting off the Romans (sometimes!), restoring the Temple, etc.

I think they will be an outstanding Civ, and now I have to add them, I have no choice. Anyone got a good leaderhead for them? David? Solomon? Don't make me steal Hammurabi...

sween32 made a King David leaderhead. You can find it in the Graphics section.

I've been thinking alot about what is on my list of projects. But, I think I know what I really NEED to do. Screw the other stuff. GT can wait, it won't have it's full potential until PTW comes out anyways.

My current top 3 priorities:
1. Finish Viet Cong
2. Robert the Bruce animated leaderhead
3. King David animated leaderhead

BTW, I can't wait for this unit to come out. I need it for my mod so Sharon can trample Yasser. ;)

Oh, and if you're going to make an ancient Israeli UU make it a cheap offensive spearman named "Men of Valor". I can't remember which battle they won for the Israelites, but it's in the Bible. You can make them with rag clothes like the worker and a long sharpened tree-brach as a spear.
