with the advent of the Civ Trait Units comes a need for yet more unit animations.

In the next installment of my new double your pleasure mod the Religious civs will now have the ability to create the new Missionary unit.

^Religious civilizations don't create normal settlers like other civs. Instead they produce [missionaries]. Missionaries wander the countryside searching for suitable places to build new missions and spread the good word of their religion. Unlike other settlers, pilgrims can move 2 tiles per turn in their religious zeal.
^
^{Building a Missionary}: A city that builds a missionary loses two citizens from its population.
^
^{Founding Cities}: Missionaries are used primarily to found new cities. Move the missionaries to
the desired city site, and, when the missionary is active in that square, press B.
^
^{Joining a City}: A missionary may also be used to increase the population of an existing city; when the
missionary is active on a city, click the "Join City" button. The missionary disappears and the city's population gains two citizens.

^When citizens were filled with the desire to witness by word and deed, at home and abroad, to the beliefs of their religion, so that others may come to know and live the truth as they understand it, they formed a missionary movement and left their homes in search of souls to teach. Once a suitable site was found, the missionaries would build their new church and homes, develop the land surrounding the the mission and teach their religion to the indiginous peoples that they found there. Eventually the whole process repeated, and the new mission would send out missionaries of its own. This process allowed civilizations and religions to spread throughout history, from the empires of the ancient world to the discovery and settlement of the New World.

I was hoping to use the animations for the priest from AoE for this, but all I have are the extracted bmps. somebody would have to put them together to make a working civ3 animation. the files are attached below.

here an image of one of the bmps after slight editing.

they are attached to the top post. note the files above are not completed animations. they are bitmaps that need to be compiled and converted into unit flics.

JimmyH,

if you are looking for a way to extract animations from AoE go to heavengames there is a file in their downloads section that allows for the extraction of unit bmps. they also have a similar program for AoK.

don't waste your time going through all the files. I have already put in the time, just let me know which unit you want the images from and I will send them to you. As far as AoK goes, well, I know its there somewhere. I actually downloaded and tried to use it on the demo, but it didn't work so I deleted it off my system.

here is the link to AoK.Heavengames.com download of Mod Pack Studio this is the program you need to extract the AoK units.

Interesting take on settlers.

A notion for expansionistic civilizations: suppose one combined settlers with scouts instead of having them separate.

Alternatively...I've found that civilizing an archipelago can be tough (and sometimes you end up on some itty-bitty spit of land). Anybody got an idea for getting around this (primitive boats or something)?

That would be great help, getting them from AOE is easy, but getting them from AOK, etc, seems to be a bit more difficult.

Can you tell me how big all of the image would be zipped up?

Cheers

For one unit it is: 187 Ko

Just say which way you want me to send them to you...

Well I wouldn't mind them all, if you use ICQ then you could send the zip file via that, ICQ NUMBER:65583540 or you could send them to healeyjames@yahoo.co.uk which has my inbox is limited to 6mb, just send them in 5mb files.

I'm trying to refine the step which are need to get these units into flc format, It's taken me all day to get the Phalanx from AOE, I've done the default, run and half the attack, and then just the death animation left.

Cheers.
James.

Kal-el,

If your interested I'm writing a program that will take frames of animation and place them in the pcx that FLICSter requires, because I wasn't happy with the amout of time it was taking to put together an animation, since the AoE images have the txt files with the offsets in it's a lot easier to write a program to do it.

I won't be releaseing this program, but I will be going through all of the AoE units and making them into FLCs.

do the AoK units have the offsets listed as well?

Don't think so.

I just about to post the Priest / Missionary at apolyton.net in the Civ3 Creation forum, complete with walk/run, death and default anims.

Default and walk/run are ok, havn't seen the death one yet, there's also a capture anim, which I will add tomorrow.
