Unit thoughts,

Don't know if anyone has ever considered or mentioned this previously, but I was wondering what sort of plausibility a Flamethrower (soldier group, guys with fuel takns strapped to their backs etc, or otherwise) unit might have within Civ 3? Perhaps obtainable after acquiring Combustion, and later down the track, upgrading to a Laser Infantry (soldiers or otherwise) once the discovery of Laser Tech is acquired.

Anyone else have thoughts about this?
 
I like the idea, but as you can see from reading other posts in this thread, creating new units is not yet possible. The animated .flic files that allow units to gracefully move, turn, shoot, etc. also carry special information in their header and, so far, no one has found an editor that allows you to insert your own values into the header. Therefore, any new units we've created just cause the game to crash.

I tried converting the marine into a laser wielding unit, patterning it after Star Wars's Storm Troopers, but Jasc's Animation Shop didn't work. The Pro Motion demo worked pretty good but the trial version won't let you save your work so I have no idea if editing an existing unit with Pro Motion will somehow leave the header intact and allow you to use it in the game.
 
I would believe that flamethrower armed troops belong to the infantry unit as small part, but it never hurts if someone does something new to the game.

About the editor.
It's possible to add new units to the game. I don't know how to make graphs, but I know how to make them work. When creating the flamethrower unit, let's say that we'll use the infantry graphics. Using the hacked editor, you can add more units to the game, let's say you'll add those flamethrowers. You name them 'flamethrower'. Then in the art/units folder you must make a copy of the 'infantry' folder and rename it 'flamethrower'. Then in the 'flamethrower' folder there should be a 'infantry.ini' file. Rename it to 'flamethrower.ini'. Now the game should work with the new flamethrower unit, which unfortunately uses the infantry graphics and sounds.
