Unit to Hero : Best Event EVAR

I think the random events are pretty reasonable (including the hero). I would play with "Living World" if so many other players didn't object to the randomness. I think the current random events are flavorful and not game unbalancing - except maybe the rampaging giant monkeys, they can really ruin someone even if they rarely enter culture.

And besides if you don't like the event then turn random events off for multiplayer,

Is it possible to turn off random events?
 
Can anyone tell me what XML I'd need to edit (and what to edit it to) to change the probability of this event to 100%? Or at least, to make sure it happens at least once per game.
 
Don't think Kael got around to flagging events to be able to turn off the proper ones yet. FfH uses events to do a lot of the mechanics in the game (like Adaptive trait for simple example), so has removed the option to turn them off. Kael does intend to eventually make a flag to indicate which ones can be turned off and an option which will let you do so at setup.
 
I just got the Hero of the Sword promotion with a Praet and I haven't noticed him doing anything that my other units are not. How odd...
 
I wish there was a spell or something that any unit could do while it was in a city to switch it to the single unit graphics, it would be soo great for RPers. I often name units and make them into little characters, often have some sort of storyline going on and thats what I love about fantasy mods. Having them as ''group'' grapics annoys me because its meant to just be one person, playing on ''single unit graphics'' is even worse because it is impossible to have a decent storyline without a proper army that isnt just made up of 5 people. Atm I generallyuse WB to give them hero promo to get single unit grapics but that means lots of micro and you dont always want a character to be a level 15 capable of bringing down an entire civ on their own and I hate the blue glow they otherwise get if i dont promote them.

So what Im saying is a new promo is added,

Character (or better name): Can be gotten through a ''spell'' that any unit can cast while in a city (or maybe just in the capital). Gives the casting unit single graphics but has no other effect.

Do any other people feel the same?

I like this idea, but I think there may be a better way to implement it. There could be a lesser hero promotion (I'm sure there is a better name). It would be exactly the same as a hero promotion, but it would not give you any free xp. Units with the lesser hero promotion could get heroic strength et al like a normal hero, but they would have to earn all of their experience. They would of course use the single unit graphics.

There could be an option in the custom game setup screen "allow lesser heroes" (again, there's probably a better name). When this option is selected, each player (both human and AI) would have the option to build lesser heroes. They would have to be very expensive, and there should be a limited number available (like national units, 3 allowed) or there could be one lesser hero of each type (melee, recon, adept, deciple, etc.).

When the national hero dies, the Shrine of the Champion might also allow the player to build one more lesser hero.

edit: A better name for the lesser hero promotion might be heroic. Then there would be heroes, and heroic units.
 
Another nifty thing you can do for RP flavor is to set the <UniqueNames> tag for all of the National units (and/or Civilization's UU's), then when they are created they start out with a special name (just like the Great People, who are currently the only units to use this tag-line).

Doesn't cut you down graphically but you could cut all UU and National Units down to single unit graphics if you wanted to I think, since you are already in the XML, change to <iMeleeWaveSize>1</iMeleeWaveSize> or <iRangedWaveSize>1</iRangedWaveSize>, and if it has multiple units defined in the Mesh Group, cut it down to a single one, or it might work to leave it at multiple, but set <iRequired>0</iRequired> for each.

I think Hero of the Sword is a different event, this one doesnt grant one of your units a Hero promotion, instead it gives you free XP and rename the unit (and it was in BtS vanialla, too...).
