Units of Destroyed Cities

I took over an enemy city a little while ago, and I noticed that there was a few units surrounding the city that belonged to it. When I took over the city, those units disappeared. This brought a question to mind I'd never really thought about. If you have units somewhere else besides in the city they belong to, and the city they belong to is captured or destroyed, are those units lost? Or do they gain support from another city.

Also, sometimes if you bribe a unit with your spy from another nation, the city it belongs to is "NONE". Does this unit get support from any of your cities? Because this is a advantage if it doesn't because that would mean one less shield to support a unit. In reality, of course, you'd think that every unit needs support.

1) As far as I know, all the units supported by a particular city are lost when that city is captured or destroyed.

2) NONE units require no support costs. A trick to getting them through diplo/spy bribery is to make sure the unit in question is closer to another civ's city than it is to one of yours. Also, if you pop a hut and get a nomad, it's automatically a NONE unit.

But I thought that mercenaries only were NONE if the closest city to the hut wasn't yours?

Oh yeah, that's right. Forgot to put that in. Thanks for pointing that out.
